Lantillian Sector Adopts New Initiative

Lantillies, Lantillian Sector, In an emergency session of the Sector Parliament, President  Antoine Flynn, laid out a new initiative to begin the prioritization and expansion of  Lantillian Sector based goods and services. With the recent rise of piracy and unrest within the Republic and its outlier systems/sectors, systems within the Lantillian Sector have fears that should the situation not stabilize that shortages of foodstuffs and raw materials will occur. In an attempt to mitigate these fears, the President set for the following initiatives for approval. The new proposal was coined the Lantillian First Initiative (LFI).

The first of these is food security. The planet of Uyter, an agri-world, is to receive 5 trillion credits to begin the creation of Uyter Agricultural Co-op (UAC). UAC will act as a central organization representing the various independent farming conglomerates on the planet. UAC leadership will be comprised of representatives appointed from the top 100 farming conglomerates across the planet. UAC's job will be to negotiate contracts as well as direct farmers what crops to plant. Another part of UAC's mandate is to prioritize the needs of  Lantillian Sector systems first before exporting out of system.

The next concern came from Lantillian Shipwrights, the largest employer in the sector. Due to vast majority of raw and processed material arriving from systems in the Outer Rim funds were allocated towards improving and streamlining salvage and scrapping operations on the planet of Bracca. An additional 5 trillion credits were allocated for the formation of a new organization as a subsidiary of LS. The new entity is known as the Scrappers Guild. The SG will be able to focus on obtaining needed raw and processed materials to feed the Sector's needs. This will allow LS to acquire locally sourced raw and processed materials for starship production. When this plan was discussed, it was revealed that several weeks ago that Lantillian Shipwrights, with assistance from the Lantillian Sector government, has begun expansion of production capacity on the planets of Lantillies and Gizer where LS facilities are located. The need for raw materials will be heavily needed once the expansions are completed.

The next phase of the LFI involves the expansion of a skilled workforce with the sector. The primary focus will be centered around starship construction/repair, starship design/modification, vehicle maintenance and design and weapon development. To address this, new Tech Schools will be opened on the planets of Gizer, Lantillies and Phasto train new technicians and mechanics. To address the engineering side of things, a new scholarship fund was established to assist all individuals in the sector wishing to attend pre-eminent starship engineering universities. One of the conditions of accepting the full ride scholarship will be a commitment to work for Lantillian Shipwrights for a period of 10 years. 4 trillion credits was allocated towards the construction and hiring of instructors of the Tech schools and an additional 2 trillion credits for the scholarship fund for 3000 students.

The final phase of the LFI is a 2 trillion credit subsidy to the Lantillian Spacers' Guild to expand membership as well as to supply members with discounted repair and maintenance costs. This subsidy will allow members to arm their ships with defensive weapons in line with republic regulations. In addition to this all planets in the sector have agreed that all future intra-sector trade contracts will be signed only with those that have signed on with the Lantillian Spacers' Brotherhood.

LFI was received, for the most part, enthusiastically by the delegation assembled a few feared what this will do to outside relations but the President stated that while this will not make the sector self-sufficient. It will get us through "thin" times.

Lantillian Shipwrights Announces Recent Moves

Lantillies, Lantillian Sector: Kontag Corporation, located on the planet Pirin, board of directors has accepted an undisclosed buyout offer from Lantillian Shipwrights. Kontag  Corp is an important group that specialized in refitting starships over the past several decades. Due to increased costs associated with political instability and an increase in piracy, its executives made a deal with the executives from Lantillian Shipwrights to save them from eventual bankruptcy. The move gives LS limited increase in production capacity and research potential.

This move coincides with the recent partnership treaty with Contruum Shipyards and Sublight Products Corporation. The deal recently inked and signed by CEOs from all corporations will give the conglomerate an edge in the development of new platforms as well as the upgrading and refitting of designs once owned by the now defunct Republic Fleet Sytems. By partnering with regional shipwrights it will pool resources to combat against the ongoing threat of piracy and external threats that loom against the Republic.

LFI Funding and Corporate Moves

Lantillies, Lantillian Sector: Last year President Flynn signed into law the Lantillian First Initiative. Initial funding only provided for administrative costs and the initiative did not provide much for results during its first few months of enactment. Several lawmakers, under the urging of President Flynn revisited the plan and revised costs for actual implementation and operation. 1.4 quadrillion credits were applied to correctly fund this plan. It was also decided that moving forward to ensure the continued funding of this program that next years budget will see a slight increase in infrastructure spending to continuously fund this endeavor.

With the recent announcement of core shortages, of both food and raw materials, proper funding of the LFI could not come at a more opportune time. The Scrappers Guild was allocated 400 trillion credits to expand and bring reclamation and recycling efforts on Bracca to full production. The Uyter Agricultural Co-op received 400 trillion credits for the expansion and consolidation of operations on the Agriworld of Uyter.

The majority of the funding (600 trillion credits) went to Lantillian Shipwrights (LS) plan to expand trade/technical education within the Lantillian Sector. This plan also set up an educational scholarship fund for any sentient being in the sector wishing to go to any recognized Republic University/Academy specializing in engineering and vehicle/starship design. Part of this funding was utilized by LS restructure the recent acquisition of Kontag Corporation. Kontag will now become the R&D division of LS. All of Kontag facilities acquired in the purchase will be refurbished with the intention of accommodating the expanding number of engineers and technicians that will be entering the workforce in the years to come.

Survey Says...

Gizer, Lantillian Sector – Survey teams with the Lantillian Sector Corps of Engineers, Gizer District, will begin collecting site surveys throughout the planet over the next couple of months.

In light of recent approval of a defense grant from the republic, the teams are taking the surveys to assist in determining the best location for construction of a new GAR Ordinance Regional Depot which due to start construction this year.

Three teams will begin survey known mountain, plain and sea regions to determine the best location for the new ORD.  Additionally, from an unnamed source, several criteria are being placed to find the best location with minimal interference to local populations, customs and wildlife.

The decision to construct a new ORD base comes on the heels of recent actions by the Hutts and their recent expansions into Republic territory. With the Lantillian Sector sitting on the frontier of Republic space in the Mid Rim, this will give the GAR a place to set up operations to better defend the Republic should the need arise.

News of converting Gizer into a new ORD has had mixed results from the local populace. Some see this as an opportunity to cash in on increased profits from military customers, others see this as a major disruption to daily lives. However, all agree that prudence is necessary to keep the Hutts in check.
