Coronet Spaceport to Expand!

In an announcement today Sellus Tepp, overseer of the Coronet Spaceport, announced the sector government would invest in the growth of the facilities. Citing the need to expand to cater to projected growth, the expansion will see the addition of new pads for both private and commercial vessels, as well as an expansion of the logistics network in and around the facilities. The increase in capacity will employ many more workers from across the sector, and ensure that Coronet remains and important hub for commerce well into the future.

In addition to the increased commercial capacity the project will result in, the Corellian Security Forces will also receive new facilities from which to operate. "All in all, this program will be a boon to not only our economy, but to all those who do business with us." - said Tepp.

Corellia Invests in the Future

The Corellian Sector government has announced a new program of grants aimed at students of technical programs within the sector. The grants will go towards providing better conditions and materials for the students, along with visits from and trips to CEC and CEC-affiliated facilities and representatives to give more hands-on practical and specialized training.

"The grant program will see students from the wealthiest academies of Corellia, to the poorest rural communities receiving much improved education, and helping to create an environment full of possibilities for our children." said Ellash Reyhal, an minister of education for the Corellian Sector. "We must prepare for the future. We have seen how disconnects in corporations' require manpower and the available workforce have resulted in delays and tragedies elsewhere in the galaxy, and that is something that is simply unacceptable to our sector government, and to our partners in the Corellian Engineering Corporation. These grants will go towards seamlessly connecting the needs of the people, with the needs of industry."

How effective the grants will be remains to be seen. The wide gap between those who have and those who have-not is still vast in the Corellia Sector. It is hoped by the sector government that this will help raise everyone up.

Council at a Crossroads

Recent events which have unfolded in the Galactic Senate have caused political debate in the Corellia Sector as to what the sector’s future should look like when it comes to its relationship with the Republic. While Corellia has long remained on the fence regarding closer cooperation with the Republic, the current government sought to pursue closer relations, to no avail thanks to hard opposition in the Senate.

The current government’s position has remained quite simple, aid the Republic where it can, so long as the Republic acts in a transparent manner when it comes to the division of resources and credits. This policy was first put to the test with the debates surrounding the formation of the Republic Engineering Corporation, where the sum of one-hundred-quadrillion was earmarked for the construction of its facilities. While Corellia supported the other parts of the bill pertaining to the formation of a Grand Army of the Republic, without clarification to where these funds would be spent senator Rennek Vesh voted in opposition to the bill, under the reasoning that a vote in favour of blindly signing away such an amount could not be justified to the Corellian people, many of whom work in the shipbuilding industry. This vote was cast in line with the Corellian Sector’s policy on transparency. When the Corellian vote was cast against the motion with the explanation why, the sponsor of the legislation publicly called Corellia’s loyalty to the Republic into question.

Attempting once more to offer Corellia’s long and proud tradition of shipyard management in the service to the Republic, the offer was once more staunchly rejected by the senator from Corulag, once more calling the Corellian Sector’s loyalty to the Republic into question. This open hostility towards Corellia has led some to openly question why any further attempts should be made to actively participate in the Republic if Corellia is not welcome there.

The loudest opposition from within the Senate to allowing any form of cooperation with the wider Republic is Corellia’s association with the Techno Union, with the Corellian Engineering Corporation being a part of the Techno Union family of corporations. Even with this relationship, CEC has provided the Republic with high quality ships for centuries, even offering the Republic lower rates and expedited orders given the looming threat of Hutt aggression thanks to subsidies from the Corellian Sector Government. It has since been announced that the most recent batch of corvettes destined to the Republic will no longer be sold under the special pricing scheme, instead sold for full price.

Speaking anonymously, an individual in the employ of CEC had the following to say, “The Galaxy is a dangerous place. When those who make decisions start to discriminate towards us because we are the best at what we do in the Galaxy, maybe it's time to stop giving them special treatment, and put them in the back of the line behind our other paying customers. The special pricing scheme for Republic ships should definitely be scrapped too.”

Nodding in agreement, another had this to say, “I agree. If some crusty old senator wants to see us as corpo scum, maybe we ought to act the part. We’ve worked our whole lives, operating heavy machinery everyday, while they judge us from their ivory towers and posh academies. They can take their lofty opinions and shove ‘em up their exhaust ports.”

Not all share these opinions towards the Republic, however. Tarr Artillen, an owner of a shipping line operating in the Core, had the following to say, “No, I don’t agree at all. Regardless of how Corellia is viewed we must continue to seek closer ties both for the sake of politics and business. The Hutts are ever-encroaching on Republic space, and the Republic is our greatest ally!”

The Corellian Council has since closed their doors for a debate on how to proceed. According to sources familiar with the topic being discussed, the main decision will be between continuing the approach of closer cooperation with the Republic, or seeking to strengthen its own position in the government under the premise that the Republic will be just as hesitant to come to the aid of the Sector as it is accepting the Sector’s offers of help. Only time will tell the results.

Corellian Industry Adapts to a Changing Market

With strain put on the Galactic economy over the past year and a half, Corellian industrialists have made a pivot to face the new realities facing the Core Worlds. With strained supply lined following the expansion and closure of Hutt space, to supply issues and bottlenecks further along the hyperlanes, the instability and vulnerability of these time-honored trade lanes is more apparent now than ever before. To ensure the Corellian economy, industrial concerns and people are prepared to face any further shocks to the economic system, several initiatives have been established to ensure the continued operation of the Corellian economy and form a strong base for future growth and further integration of corellian products into the Republic economy. To this end, two flagship projects have come online this year with more slated to come online next fiscal year. The first of these efforts in the Indella Hyperdrive Works complex, producing high quality subsystems for use by CEC, and external customers. The second project was the expansion of Corellia's "consumable" output through the expansion of Corellian companies producing consumable products like fuel cells, rations and ammunition.

"Through these projects we see a heavy trend towards sectors of Corellia's industrial base which have traditionally catered towards the interests of the wider republic. With the foundation of the GAR and REC, these investments are perfectly positioned to provide inputs to those ventures, even without heavy industry from these projets being present in the Corellia Sector. Essentially, we are seeing Corellia create plug-and-play modules for this new industrial behemoth." said Ortho Fraxx, an economic columnist on Corellia.

Anti Corruption Campaign Enters New Phase

The anti-corruption campaign undertaken in the Corellia Sector is beginning to enter a new phase, with the emphasis shifting from street level thugs to the higher ups in criminal and adversarial organizations. Spearheaded by CorSec, much of the noticable elements of this campaign will disapear with work being picked up in the shadows, "where many criminal gangs and syndicates have scurried off to" said one official. So far, CorSec has made thousands of arrests, and will continue its operation until the Sector is clear of major criminal syndicate elements.

The focus of this operation so far has been the criminal syndicate known as the Black Sun. CorSec has swiftly and efficiently dealt a major blow to this syndicate, erasing much of its influence from the sector. Crippled by other developments on Coruscant, some analysts suggest this to be the perfect time to eliminate the syndicate for good should other sector authorities choose to act.

Finally, at a recent press briefing, when pressed on the claim of the Abregado government the CorSec spokesperson had this to say - "We do not track the wherabotus of all four point four trillion of our citizens, let alone when they are abroad. If the Abregado sector authorities require help solving a crime or tracking someone, they are free to open an official inquiry with us directly asking for our assistance in the matter. We have, to this date, not received such an inquiry. Instead of airing perceived dirty laundry out in front of the galaxy, it might be a good idea to open official channels with us - for starters."
