Esselian Empire announces reformation of military, establishment of academy system

The armed forces of the Esselian Empire are to be reorganised as a professional outfit and augmented with a new academy system, the Ministry of Defence has announced today. Some 500 billion credits have been earmarked for the venture, providing funds to both establish multiple academies around the Empire as well as establish sufficient procurement contracts with domestic entities.

Citing security concerns both domestically and across the Republic, General Sir Redvers Buller maintained that the establishment of the Royal Army, Royal Navy and Royal Starfighter Corps will ensure and enshrine the security that the people of the Empire and the Darpa Sector as a whole deserve.

Following comments by The Viscount Palmerston within the Galactic Senate chambers, this latest statement by General Buller allows some insight into the growing concerns within the Imperial hierarchy that there may be greater problems than piracy on the horizon, something our own analysts disagree with following almost a thousand years of relative peace since the Ruusan Reformations.

Ministry of Defence secures procurement contracts with Damorian Manufacturing, Trinkatta Starships

The MOD has today announced the awarding of procurement contracts to the domestic Damorian Manufacturing Corporation and Trinkatta Starships. A measure seen as a prerequisite for the establishment of a professional army, the contracts will see government funds invested into manufacturing facilities to supply the Royal Army and Navy.

Further investment is also expected into the development of domestic equipment for the armed forces, with analysts anticipating a focus on an Interceptor, patrol cruiser or frigate and ground equipment.

Treasury announces new schemes to drive private investment and support small businesses

Chancellor of the exchequer Anne Ahsolé today revealed the first stage of a long term plan to drive growth and investment across the private sector. Projected to cost a princely 1.5 quadrillion credits, paid entirely from this years bumper surplus, the wide ranging schemes target both education and investment.

The first scheme announced aims to incentivise private sector investment through the facilitation of government backed loans to domestic small enterprises, alongside a "super-deduction" tax offer through which businesses can reclaim 120% of eligible capital expenses against the current years corporation taxes.

Further schemes targeting the education of workers in the Sector will operate alongside these, offering clear apprenticeship pathways for school leavers along with subsidised "up-skilling" courses available for older workers and companies to utilise.

It is hoped these measures will begin to drag the Darpa Sector out of the technical recession it is currently experiencing, though further activity will likely be required from the treasury to drive growth.
