Outland Region Security Force Announces Reforms!
First of Many to Come, States High Marshal Harro

In major news from the Greater Seswenna Region, the Outland Region Security Force (ORSF) has announced a number of new reforms intended to make the Force "a serious defensive obstacle against piracy and conventional forces alike", states High Marshal Harro. The ORSF was founded seven years ago by its founder, Senator Ranulph Tarkin, as a joint effort by numerous surrounding sectors to combat the unchallenged rise of piracy in the Outer Rim. Originally only a force of a dozen starships, most of which came from the Planetary Defense Force of Eriadu, the ORSF will now include the ORSF Navy, ORSF Army, and its newest member, the ORSF Marine Corps. Each branch will have their own ranks and facilities for training. The ORSF has also likewise ordered the end of all conscription in the ORSF, and those conscripts who wish to remain in the ORSF are to file the appropriate petition to undergo standardized training at one of the various facilities.

Of much note, however, is the change in recruitment standards, with recruitment centers being located in all ORSF Member sectors with population centers greater than 10,000 citizens. For those Republic citizens looking to join the ORSF as volunteers (albeit paid), a recruitment center has been opened up on the Seswenna Sector Embassy on Coruscant and are encouraged to apply there. Those citizens who wish to join the ORSF as an officer are required to attend the Carida, Corulag, or Anaxes PDF Academies, or attend a Officer Candidate School sponsored by the ORSF. The only Republic Citizens who are authorized to join the ORSF as commissioned Officers are Core Worlders, and must submit a birth record showing proof of this. All other Republic citizen volunteers will be required to enlist first.

Breaking with the previous norm of the ORSF's previous recruitment tactic, women are no longer excluded from enlisting in the ORSF. Women are still excluded from combat roles, save those aboard starships. Though it was rare in the past, several famous ORSF Officers, including Captain Zsinj, have proven that undoubtedly women have a place and role in the ORSF. Through the efforts of women like Captain Zsinj, women have broken through the glass ceiling that is military service. Per the request of the High Marshal, women are reminded that until their initial term of enlistment is complete, bearing children will result in expulsion from the ORSF. Officers are excluded from this rule however.

Outland Region Security Forces Deploy!
Keeping the Peace

In major news out of the Seswenna Sector, the Outland Region Security Forces (or ORSF) has begun a major deployment throughout all ORSF Sectors, with the intention of defending against the rampant piracy through the region. While details could not be obtained, the initial news of this came when all ORSF personnel's leave and liberty being revoked, and this was later confirmed when the ORSF High Command gave a press briefing. Little is known about how far the operation intends to go, but ORSF forces across the Western Reaches are mobilizing to assist in the operation.

In an interview with a young officer, whose name we will not disclose at this time, we have been informed that the Operation is intended to curtail piracy throughout the entire Western Reaches area of operation. He has stated that this is mostly just a rudimentary deployment, and that the chance of engagement with pirate vessels is low, but not zero. This puts things into perspective and our military analysts believe that this operation is likely one of escort duty, with the intent to get the pirates into a field of battle that is in the ORSF's favor. Though this cant be verified, our analysts are rarely wrong!

The ORSF High Command has asked that if there are any ships leaving the Seswenna Sector or member sectors of the ORSF, that they contact the ORSF line of support at ***-***-**** for more information regarding operations and when to move freight out of the region.

ORSF Reforms Continue!
New Uniforms, Standards for Recruitment!

Continuing with this months earlier story, it seems the Outland Region Security Force is dedicated to getting the absolute most out of their recruitment pool! The ORSF in recent days has required recruits to meet a list of requirements before joining the military force, but now the ORSF has released specifications for new recruits to join. Of these, recruits are now going to have to complete an initial physical fitness test, which includes a 1.5 mile run in under 13:30 minutes, must achieve 3 pull ups in under two minutes, and be able to hold a plank for a minimum of 40 seconds. This initial fitness test is combined with a body index that recruits must meet, with those who are underweight being given extra rations at boot camp, while those overweight being sent to a body shaping course before going to boot camp. All excellent ideas in our opinion here at Seswenna Nightly News! But wait, there's more!

Starting immediately, all members of the ORSF will be required to complete annual Physical Fitness Tests, with the Army and Marine Corps being required to complete a Combat Fitness Test ontop of that! These tests are designed to show the capabilities of the individual, with the only individuals who are given exemptions to these tests are those with extenuating circumstances like deployment or personal injury. The High Marshal has put out a directive to all commands that starting immediately, daily physical training regimens will be conducted. This training should include strength and cardio training, and will be conducted as a unit every morning.

Next, the ORSF has put out a directive that all new recruits have to take a Vocational Aptitude Battery, a form of test that is designed to find out what you will be good at. And before you can ask, yes there is an absolute minimum you must get if you're looking to join the ORSF! All incoming personnel are required to get a minimum score of a 36. Of course all recruits are of course encouraged to get as high possible, as the higher the score, the more doors open up to you in the ORSF! Of course, recruits have to understand that the needs of the ORSF are paramount to the needs of the individual, and while they will do their best to get you to the job you want, sometimes the boat space just isnt there!

Uniforms.jpg

Finally, the ORSF has come out with a new uniform, as seen above, that will standardize the uniforms of all members. From Officers to Enlisted, these new uniforms will be provided to personnel initially free of cost. Replacements will of course cost money, but hey, nothings free in this Galaxy! ORSF command is looking for input on how to improve the uniform more as time goes on, and what should be removed or what should be added to them. Eriadu Institute of Technology Takes Flight!
New Institute Promises Grand Results

Earlier this morning, Senator Ranulph Tarkin announced formally that the Quintad of Eriadu has approved the creation of a new institute on Eriadu, one which they promise will bring prosperity and education to the Outer Rim. Breaking ground on the large 166 acre campus, Senator Tarkin made it abundantly clear that this institute would one day educate the future of the Eriaduan people. The institute, which promises to be competitive with the grandest of universities in the Core region, is primarily designed around the advancement of science and technology, but includes a large engineering department as well. As Senator Tarkin stated to the masses, "This Institute will not just teach our youth what to think, but how to apply what they are taught moving forward, for the sake of the peoples of the Outer Rim and the Galaxy."

The Institute, while being highly selective, promises to produce the finest minds that the Seswenna Sector has ever seen. Would be applicants have to have scored at minimum in the top tenth percentile, and that's to be competitive! Other factors that can play a part in it include extra curricular activities, family history on Eriadu, and even a personal recommendation from a member of the Quintad! Word has it that the Quintad has opened their mail to requests from the people for admission. Isn't that amazing? The Quintad, our delightful and ever present leaders, have taken it upon themselves to assist the people towards a greater tomorrow!

As the facility is being constructed, in the Eriaduan Brutalist Fashion of course, hope rises for Eriadu to once again outpace her Core brothers and sisters. We know that with men like Senator Tarkin leading us forward, nothing can go wrong!

ORSF Reforms Continue!
Meet the Joint Chiefs of Staff

Reforms in the ORSF are continuing full steam ahead, with the creation of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a board of the High Marshals of the various ORSF Branches. The Joint Chiefs of Staff will be largely responsible for ensuring personnel readiness, policy, planning and training of their respective branches, while the High Marshal of the ORSF as chair will act as the primary military advisor to the Governor-General of the Greater Seswenna Region. This board will be joined by the creation of a new Command in the ORSF as well, known as the ORSF Training and Doctrine Command, who will be responsible for the creation of doctrine and training of the ORSF Forces. While most of TRADOC, as it's now known, are military personnel, there are a number of civilian advisors to the command that assist in the operations of the command.

Of most interest is that there has been a number of retired personnel coming from the Anaxes Academy, Corulag Academy, and Carida Academy, who will be the primary advisors to the new Command. Rumor has it that substantial financial rewards were offered to these individuals for them to join the ORSF, and certain promises were made to them that guaranteed their right to return to their homeworlds.

Alongside TRADOC, has come the creation and development of the ORSF Material Acquisitions Command, or MAC. This Command is responsible for the requisitioning of equipment, materials, and munitions for the ORSF. MAC has also been responsible for the creation of new ORSF facilities and the maintenance of current facilities. MAC has quickly become the most financially intensive commands in the ORSF, with billions of credits poured into the Command to ensure that the grand soldiers and sailors of the ORSF get the equipment and supplies they need!

And Remember ladies and gentlemen, if you would like to know more about the ORSF and its various Commands, please click the link below!

Planetary Cleanup Begins!
Holy Crap I can Breathe!

For the first time in centuries, citizens of Eriadu have taken a breath of fresh air that was not polluted by the industrial output of an entire world. This comes with the introduction of thousands of Atmospheric Filtration Turbines, and two new Atmospheric Processing Units on both poles of the planet. In a statement made by the Quintad, the intention of this new move is to "clean up Eriadu", and make it more habitable for the billions of citizens on the world, thus saving quadrillions of credits annually in health costs for the citizens. This comes with a sudden shift from the Quintad towards a more patriarchal approach towards its people. Governor-General Tarkin, of the famous Tarkin Clan, has stated that it is "our duty to take care of our people as if they were our children. I don't want to see my child cancerous and rotting".

Citizens have also seen hundreds of Decon III droids, purchased from Industrial Automaton, working with the efficiency and dedication only a droid can. These droids have been assigned towards a number of dumping zones, where they process the waste there. And they sure do have a task ahead of them, with some of these zones having been used for a hundred years or more. Joining them at these zones is a single molecular furnace, where they recycle the nuclear and hard waste into usable materials again. These materials are then sold back to the industrial plants for use again, and thus begins a cycle of use. This has seen some companies, like Eriadu Manufacturing, save billions of credits on import fees, as many of these materials can be reused.

Of some shock to citizens, was the turning of several "freshwater" lakes on Eriadu from a dark purplish hue, into a vibrant green, followed by a crystal clear blue again. Most citizens of Eriadu have never seen clean waters before, and to some these waters look more polluted than the waters that they were familiar with. After some instruction by Quintad authorities, the locals have taken to sunning themselves at these newly cleaned beaches and playing in the water. How is this possible? The introduction of a plant new to Eriadu, the Water Processing Plant, which filters out pollutants and chemicals from the water. Well that and hundreds of water processing facilities. We are told that this is just the first step, with the final intent being to clean up the oceans of the world.

We hope that this initiative continues, and citizens have voiced a massive support for this move, with some swearing their very lives to Governor-General Tarkin, openly weeping when he made a public appearance. One picture making the rounds is of the Governor-General comforting a weeping child, who had for the first time, truly tasted clean water. What a joy people!

Orrineswa Military Academy Opening Soon!
Academy Promises Elite Results

800px-TFoR_AS_-_Reach_Naval_Academy.jpg

There has been a question that has been bugging ORSF Top Brass for a while, what happens if our supply of officers from the Core dries up? Though the question is hard to imagine, there are possibilities that the Core could one day be embroiled in a war that may see the steady supply of new Officers to the ORSF dry up. At current, 65% of new officers to the ORSF come from the Core regions of the galaxy, with Anaxes, Corulag, Rendili, and Carida being the primary group of worlds who send volunteers to the ORSF annually. That number is about to get smaller, with the creation of the Orrineswa Military Academy, a higher education that focuses on military sciences, but promises degrees that will help their recipients for the rest of their lives. While the plan is not to house anywhere near as many cadets as the Core world Academies like Anaxes, or Corulag, only the best of the best will be admitted to Orrineswa.

Built along one of the few "green zones" of Eriadu, along the Orrineswa river, the facility will house 5,000 cadets and 600 faculty. While the majority of faculty were former instructors at Anaxes, Corulag and Carida, there is a healthy batch of ORSF instructors, including a cadre of enlisted personnel who will help bring these elite students down to Eriadu, and show them that though they are privileged to be a cadet, their first priority is to the enlisted men and women of the ORSF. The architect for the facility is a renowned local architect, who has built the facility in the brutalist style of Eriadu. While it's not as pretty as Corulag's Academy, it promises results that will put Eriadu on the map for it's military.

Those looking to apply to the Academy will have to graduate from their secondary school in the top fifth percentile, and must sign a contract to commission into the ORSF upon graduation (with branch of choice being a given). Though open to non-Eriadu volunteers, only 2% of the Academy cadets may be foreigners at any given time. While the academic requirements are strict, there are other requirements as well, with the age range of acceptance being within the 17-23 group, unmarried, and no child obligations. After initial approval, students must pass a strenuous physical test and medical examination, to meet ORSF requirements. Non-natives will be required to get a letter of recommendation from either the Quintad or the Superintendent of the school. Once they have been selected for screening further, the candidate will undergo a formal investigation into his/her past, as well as an interview with the Commandant of Cadets.

This new Academy comes at the same time as the construction of the Eriadu Institute of Technology, and while Eriadu is not short of higher education, the Quintad seems intent on showing the galaxy that Eriadu can not only produce top of the line goods, but also produce some of the greatest Soldiers and Sailors the galaxy has ever seen. We can't wait to see what the future cadets have in store for Eriadu, and also the ORSF as a whole!

ORSF Task Force Deployed!
Republic Calls, and the ORSF Answers!

The ORSF has deployed a large task force for the the sole purpose of reinstating order and stability on the world of Sluis Van. While strategic and tactical necessities dictate that the Seswenna Nightly News can not give exact information on the deployment, the jovial nature of the ORSF personnel on their way to the starports seems to show that the ORSF is pursuing a mission that they believe to be righteous and good. Sluis Van, long a member of the ORSF, had not immediately called on the ORSF to assist in stabilizing the world, however, when contact with the world was lost, the ORSF was contacted by the Grand Army of the Republic to assist in reestablishing order on the world.

For many, this was what the entire purpose of the Outland Region Security Force was. To some, such as song writer Varus Cohen, this deployment has created the mood to which he has in turn created the military song "Over There". Set to a tune that has not been heard before, the men and women of the ORSF have adopted the song to show their indomitable fighting spirit. One Private S. Longham, states that the song reminds him of why he joined the ORSF, "It's not about just Eriadu, or Seswenna, it's about worlds like Elrood or Triton that don't have the means to protect themselves. We're out here fighting for everyone, everyday".

Analysts guess that as many as 50,000 men and women are deploying to the world in one capacity or another. What element of that is combat personnel is unknown, however, residents of Eriadu have noted that the Procurator-class Star Battlecruiser "Twilight's Gleam" has been notably missing from the night sky of Eriadu. If this is true, then this will prove to be the first test of battle for the Battlecruiser, as the ship was designed by Kuat Drive Yards for the sake of satiating the need for large warships in the Core. It will truly be a moment of history for both the "Twilight's Gleam" and the ORSF.

If you wish to join the ORSF, contact your local recruitment center, you too could be part of a bigger picture. Hail Victory!
