The Battle of Arbular

Arbular, Lambda Sector - As the conflict between the Andoan Free Colonies and the Spiverelda government of the Lmbda Sector drags into its seven years, many were beginning to wonder if the rebel movement had lost its momentum. Since the battle of Ando Secundos nearly seven years ago. attacks from the Andoan Free Colonies has steadily decreased in ferocity and frequency. What was once considered a cold Civil War, made up of asymmetrical attacks against the Spiverelda, has suddenly turned hot again as forces aligned with the Free Colonies launched a full scale assault on the world of Arbular.

Details on the fighting are sparse, however or correspondents have been able to gather that the Free Colonies utilized covert means to launch the attack. Apparently, nearly a thousand troops had been positioned on the planet over the past six months. When the government shut down for the New Year Fete Week celebrations, they launched their attacks. Utilizing mostly light Infantry, the Free Colonies have been able to secure the capital of Arbular, and are working to consolidate their holdings on the world.

The Spiverelda government has announced a travel warning for the area around Arbular. While no official announcements have been made, information has leaked pointing to a build up of government forces, under the command of General Trench of the Ando military. Our experts expect that a full scale counter offensive, and an attempt to retake Arbular, will occur within the next month.

The Changing Face of Piracy
Republic's military build up causing issues...

Since the beginning of the year, military analysts--usually a boring job with very little to do--have been hectic as reports come pouring in of a sudden and unexpected military build up within the Galactic Republic. For centuries, the Republic has been at peace, and has maintained this peace with what most say is the bare minimum of military force. The Republic itself does not even have a military any longer, relying on the paramilitary Republic Judicial Forces to keep the peace and patrol the space lanes. This centuries old status quo has been shattered with the start of this year, however.

The most shocking news, and the moment that our analysts knew the universe was changing, was the Kuati announcement that construction of a truly massive warship had begun. Named the "Pride of the Core," this vessel represents the first fully functional Mandator-Class Star Dreadnought that has ever been constructed. While previous prototypes, or technology demonstrators had been built, none of them were fully functional battle ships and represented little more than vanity projects for one of the Galaxy's premier shipyards. While many other shipyards have refrained from public announcements about their construction, our analysts have pointed to a massive increase in the demand for raw materials, engineering laborers, and military-grade computer systems that would point to KDY not being the only one working on new warships.

Experts don't seem to agree on if this is the right move for the Republic or not. Retired Admiral Finnius Trand, formerly of the Azure Sector Defense Forces, has heavily critized the move by Kuat and other Core governments. "The construction of such a massive warship is little more than a waste of credits and vanity. It is simply not needed for the security of the Core worlds. There are no large existential threats to the Republic, not one that could truly challenge the already impressive Kuati Defense Forces. I don't see any legitimate justification for this action."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the table, Commander Kray Ackbar, reserve member of the Calamari Sector Defense Forces, has praised the military build up across the Republic. "Simply put, the Core World's perspective of Republic Security is flawed and colored by their comfortable lives. The Rims of the galaxy are not as safe as the Core. Piracy is rampant, and there is simply not enough ships to keep the space lanes safe. If it wasn't for the fact that the Guilds have seen fit to maintain robust defensive forces, and to actively patrol their interests, I have no doubt that the Rims would be lawless lands of danger and theft."

As with many issues in the Republic, it seems that the Core and the Rim perspective are opposite of one another. While that debate will continue to rage within the Republic, outside of the Republic's control, people are taking this as a sign of the times. Rumors are running wild of private security firms forming to take advantage of this new militaristic streak in the Republic. On the opposite side of the law, several small pirate groups have made open moves to work together, combining forces to ensure they can still operate in what may very well be a more hostile galaxy for them. Our experts are most concerned about this. Historically, pirate groups have been small, operated independently, and even viewed eachother with just as much hostility as they viewed the lawmen of the galaxy. Should this change, it is expected that patrolling the space lanes will become even more hazardous.

While the prospect of organized pirates is troubling, a potential issue poised by Menna Tagge, military analyst for TaggeCo, feels much more threatening. "Simply put, if the Republic continues to build up, our leaders must be prepared for powers outside of our borders to do the same. While the Hutts haven't been an issue for centuries, and have stayed contained, we can not ignore the possibility of them doing the same. The greatest existential threat to the Republic would be a resurgent and cooperating Hutt Space. We must tread carefully, before this build up causes a reason for it to be needed."

Ceasefire in the Lambda System

Perhaps a small glimmer of hope?

For the last 7 years a horrific civil war has been tearing apart the colonial possesions of the Spirevelda Government of the Andoen Worlds. Seperatists have been battling for freedom against their overlords for their alleged iron grip on the colony worlds leaving almost no autonomy. This war has seen countless deaths on both sides of the conflict however the Spirevelda are often seen to have the upper hand in the conflict. The Republic has been largely blind to the conflict happening inside Republic Space. It has fallen to the planetary government of Alderaan to step in to attempt to bring both parties to the negotiating table, which, to the surprise of almost everyone, has yielded some promising results.

Both sides have agreed to a temporary ceasefire while new peace negotiations are carried out. Very few are optimistic about a positive outcome from these talks due to neither side wanting to give any concessions. For now though the guns are silent for the first time in years and has shown at least a brief willingness to allow diplomacy take its course.

Increased Anti-Piracy Operations
Outland Regions Security Force Deploys

As concerns about piracy in the Rim continue to grow, the Seswenna Sector's Outland Regions Security Force has heard the voice of the population, and deployed to protect the sector from threats. Operating under a new patrol organization, over forty ships have begun to deploy in patrol routes across the Sector. While the Seswenna Sector has historically had a lower than average piracy rate, mainly because of the ORSF, the rates have piracy have still steadily increased over the years at it has across much of the rim. This latest group of patrols is hoped to begin reversing this effect, and start decreasing the amount of piracy experienced within the Sector. While the operation has just begun, public approval for the move has been strong. It is expected that the results of this activity will be felt in the coming months.

The Ambush at Nal Hutta
Jedi come under fire by Hutt Gangsters, four dead...

The Jedi Order, long considered guardians of peace and order in the Republic, is known for undertaking dangerous and clandestine investigations in order to root out criminals and threats to the people. Typically speaking, they are also known for being extremely difficult to kill. Their mastery of the force allows them to perform feats unlike any normal sentient, their lightsabers are symbols not only of the order but also grant them amazing combat potential. It would seem, however, that recent events have lessened their mystique.

Working under the radar, a group of Jedi departed the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for the outer rim. While the details of the investigation have no been revealed to us at this time, it is clear that this was a clandestine operation, as the vessels used by the Jedi were not operating with Republic or Judicial IFFs. These vessels dropped off the radar for several days, before entering Hutt space. What happened next was unexpected, and unprecedented, accounting for the most losses to the Jedi Order in nearly a hundred years.

Details of the incident are sparse at this stage, as there has been no official statement from the Order. However, amateur holovideo shows clips of the Jedi falling into an ambush. The attack appeared to start in an office building on the world of Nal Hutta, where the Jedi were assaulted from hidden positions. During this initial ambush we clearly see one of the younger Jedi, presumably a Knight, fall under head blaster fire. As the remaining Jedi retreat, lead by who we believe to be Cin Drallig of the Order, they are engaged repeatedly by what appears to be gang members mixed with heavily armored and armed infantry. Through out the recordings, the gang members appear to be fairly easy for the Jedi to defend against, however, the soldiers are a different story. Utilizing flame throwers, rocket launchers, and high rate of fire blaster rifles, these soldiers seemed to make quick work of several Jedi.

One recording has become a rallying cry for Jedi supporters, who seem to be decrying the blatant attack on the protectors of the Republic. In the recording, Master Depa Billab, a seated member of the Jedi Council, is seen interposing herself between the remaining Jedi and the advancing infantry. She is seen holding them off, and using the force to push her charges through an open door, before sealing it behind them. Staying to buy time, the Master is seen being hit by multiple blaster shots, before being overwhelmed by multiple flame throwers, setting her a blaze and eventually ending her life.

Reports indicate the fire fight continued for several more minutes, before a vessel matching the description of the Jedi transport blasted out of a near by spaceport. 

In a statement from Lord Aruk Besadii Aora, leading member of the newly formed Kajidic Cooperation Council, called this an act of aggression and tantamount to a declaration of war. "Not only has the membership of the Republic seen fit to begin a mass wave of militarization, but now the Jedi--undoubtedly working under the orders of the Republic Senate--decided to invade our space. Were it not for the vigilant defenders of the Hutt people, these aggressive fascists would have been able to carry out their mission. Their mission, which we believe, was a plan to assassinate myself and other ruling members of the Hutt Kajidics, to the aim of destabilizing Hutt Space and eliminating the only viable challenger to Republic domination of the Rim. We will not stand idly by and allow these attacks on our Sovereignty."

The Hutt Grand Guard

Shocking news from Hutt Space. Holovids of a new military unit has been released by the Hutt Kajidic Cooperation Council, much to the surprise of military analysts across the galaxy. In the vids, you can clearly see individuals of multiple species performing high intensity physical activity, under the watchful eyes of men clad in solid black body suits and cloaks. They continue to show advanced tactical training being performed by these new Guardsmen, including close quarters combat operations. Overall, the vids portray these new Guardsmen as highly trained and skilled warriors. Our analysts indicate that from the visible training, these individuals will be better trained than the average Core World planetary defense forces, but they also acknowledge that this is a "cherry picked" vid that may be reflective of actual training.

However, the training was not the most shocking issue. In the vid, they were shown testing new "staff" weapons. These weapons seem to fire high power bolts of plasma, while also being suited for close quarters, hand to hand combat. The most shocking aspect of them, however, is their apparent ability to resist lightsabers. During the vid, a section is shown where these staff weapons are used to block and deflect Jedi lightsabers--presumably captured from the corpses of the Jedi killed during the Nal Hutta ambush.

Judicial Force Arrives in Lambda Sector

Weeks after leaving the Judicial Headquarters on Coruscant, a Judicial Task Force of forty-four warships has finally arrived at Ando and Andosha II, to begin a peacekeeping operation in the hopes of permanently ending the Andoan Wars. 

On Andosha II and in the Andoan Free Colonies, the deployment has begun with little fuss and generally welcomed by the populace.  The only complaints so far are from the Judicial Forces themselves, who have little to do on their down time and considering the rather lawlessness of the Sector are denied leave.  Of any condition to inflict the Judicial Forces in this area so far has been boredom and cabin fever. 

Over Ando however, things are far more tense even if still peaceable.  Patrols are quite busy but rarely detain any vessels.  Most would-be criminal elements seem to give the Judicial ships a wide berth, and the Judicials respond in kind to not stop many vessels unless there's an act of open combat.  Not only would that be outside the scope of their orders but stopping the sheer volume of criminality that crosses these lanes on a daily basis would be a monumental undertaking they have not been equipped for.  Even when passing through the notorious Mon Gazza System many ships seem to take a different course around Judicial ships on station or passing through, though the Republic ships still maintain a high readiness and alert level.  On the planet itself Judicial Forces are treated coldly despite the oppressive humidity and are watched by the Andoans around the clock.  Since only around five percent of Ando is accessible and the rest being oceans and water, there is little room for Judicials to quietly observe.  In no doubt are the Andoans content for the time being with stares and jeering due to the present of the Jedi.

Azure Defense Conference

This month saw an exciting development on the world of Axum, as the sector commonly known as the Defender of the Core reached out and began the work of cooperating with Rim worlds on defense. While the precise content of this meeting was not discussed, we do know that the conference was focused on countering the nearly prolific level of piracy in the Outer Rim region of the galaxy, specifically along the Hydian Way.  In attendance were representatives from eight Outer Rim Sectors, including Tion, Maldrood, and the Kwymer Sector. After the conference, we were able to speak directly to one of the representatives, Captain Wullf Yularen of the Kwymer Sector Defense Forces.

"The invitation to Axum for the conference was a surprise to say the least, though they had made inquiries regarding security in the Rim before this, we did not expect this level of active participation. The fact that such a prestigious and experienced Core Defense Force is willing to actively assist us in the Rim with anti-piracy operations is a refreshing change of pace. While I am not at liberty to discuss the particulars of this conference, I can say that if what we were told is true, we may be looking at a new era of Core-Rim Cooperation on mutual defense."null

The Droid Armies of the Techno Union

The Holonet News Network has received an anonymous message, with details regarding an alleged military build up the member worlds of the Techno Union. While the Techno Union, as a guild, enjoys special status in regards to its defense, the information that has been provided points to a step beyond simple security and protection. We turn to a report by Retired Admiral Finnius Trand, formerly a commanding member of the Azure Sector Defense Force, for his analysis of the military build up.

"The information provided by our anonymous benefactor is, honestly, shocking. These reports are extensive, and seem to involve intelligence analysis and leaks from numerous Techno Union members, including Fondor Shipyards, Kuat Drive Yards, and the yards at Skako. First and foremost, the report includes detailed specifications of a new battle droid, titled the B-1 droid. This droid can best be described as a mass production infantry unit, designed to be used in swarm attacks. These droids are individually quite weak, but in the numbers that they are projected to be produced in, they represent a capable 'quantity vs quality' army."

"Of equal concern, are the actions of Kuat and Fondor. On Fondor, the most advanced ground vehicle in the past century is currently under development. An assault tank, the first in centuries, is nearing completion. This tank is described as heavily armored, heavily armed, and mobile enough to be used in maneuver warfare. On Kuat, large scale drop ships designed to work in conjunction with these other units, is also under production. There's also reports of other supporting units, such as droid transports, being developed."

"The analysis of this is simple. If this information is true, which I personally believe it is, then the Techno Union will be in possession of a fully functional droid army by the end of this year. I want to be specific about the phrasing of this... I did not say a 'droid defense force.' No, I said a droid army. An army unlike any currently in the Republic, capable of launching large scale planetary assaults, with both heavy armor and mobility support. Should the Techno Union feel the need to use such a force in anger, there is not a Republic defense force currently capable of challenging them on a peer-to-peer level."

BREAKING NEWS: Elrood Blockade?

Just moments ago, a fleet of seventy warships, led by an Inexpugnable-Class command ship, began a blockade of the planet Elrood. It appears as if these forces are broadcasting both Azure Defense Force and Jedi Order IFFs. The Elrood defense forces appear to be coordinating with the Azure forces, and are assisting with the blockade. The Elrood government has put the planet into an emergency posture and initiated a communications black out.

The Battle of Elrood
Jedi and Azure Forces defeat dark jedi cult?

As the blockade of Elrood, and the subsequent communications black out are lifted, we are now learning details of the situation that necessitated such an extreme response. A cult of what are being called "dark Jedi" had apparently been active on Elrood, slowly building up power and resources for some nefarious plot. According to official reports, nearly twenty members of the cult have been captured or eliminated during this operation, with limited losses on the side of the Republic enforcers. We have been granted a brief run down of the situation by local area commanders.

While the Jedi have not been forth coming about the information that led to this operation, we do know more about the operation itself. Over a month ago, elements of the Azure Defense Forces--specifically Cruiser Squadron No. 1--began departing the Azure Sector in stages. On these vessels were a mix of regular army, special operations forces, and Jedi Masters. These Masters instructed and practiced with the special forces operatives on the Azure ships, helping them prepare for what they would face. Our experts point to this being a significant boon to the Azure sector forces, as having real world knowledge both working with and against force users is rare in the modern world, with it typically being restricted to select military forces such as the Jedi operated Antarian Rangers.

It is important to note, that the Jedi Masters dispatched on this mission represent perhaps the greatest masters in the order. Mace Windo, Dooku, Cin Drallig, and Plo Koon led the Republic forces during this operation, and each is reported to have acquitted themselves quite well in the battle that ensued.

Upon arrival at the Elrood system, the Azure force dispatched the Jedi Masters and their strike teams--made up entirely of the Azure Defense Forces elite Commando Units. These teams began an investigation into the identity of their targets. It did not take long for them to be found, as an apparent robbery of a local weapons mart began shortly after their arrival. Master Dooku, apparently led by the force, was able to locate the attackers. A brief duel ensued, and according to holo recordings from the scene, Master Dooku quickly disarmed the primary assailant--a female human wielding a crimson bladed lightsaber--before capturing the remaining five criminals with the help of his attached commando units. We are unaware of the details after their capture, but within an hour the Azure flotilla--totally seventy ships--began their blockade and the true battle on Elrood began.

Reports from local defense forces, as well as holo recordings obtained by Holonet News, show that a compound on the outskirts of the capital city of Elrooden was assaulted by the Republic forces. Armed drop ships deployed the Jedi and commandos within the compound, while local security formed a perimeter--supported by Azure reinforcements. The battle inside is said to have been fierce, with Jedi Masters and Commandos taking on and defeating force wielding opponents. Local defense forces also engaged several individuals armed with blasters, killing several and capturing many more. 

The battle lasted for a little over an hour, before the scene was declared all clear. However, from our unconfirmed reports, the Jedi believed that other members of the cult may have escaped prior to their arrival. This fact led to them requesting an extension of the lock down for several days, as the planet was searched. Yesterday evening, local time, the security measures were lifted and the planet was declared secure. After the security measures were lifted, Senator Elan Droon of Elrood transmitted a public address. 

"Today I come to you with gratitude. Our world, and our sector, was in extreme danger--danger that we could not have handled alone. Thanks to the timely intervention by the Jedi Order and the Azure Sector, this situation was brought to an end with minimum loss of life. I extend my heartful thanks to the Jedi Order and the Azure Sector for their brave actions over the past several days, and will work with the Sector government to ensure that we are cooperating fully with their investigation."

BREAKING NEWS: Explosion Rocks Kuat City!

A large explosion has rocked Kuat City! Reports indicate that one of a palatial mansions on the out skirts of Kuat City is the ground zero of a large scale explosion. According to official records, the explosion occurred at the Knylenn family estate. Initial reports have not indicated if there were any casualties following the explosion. The emergency response has been swift and the area is locked down. Enhanced security protocols have been activated across the world of Kuat, and the orbital axis is under a lockdown. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

BREAKING NEWS: Sluis Van Goes Dark

We've received word of a large scale communications black out occurring on the world of Sluis Van. From our reports, it would appear as if local Holonet relays have gone offline, essentially cutting the surface off of Holonet communications. Given the tense situation on the planet, it is quite possible that the world is in full Rebellion against the local government.

At the same time, a large force has departed Eriadu and is enroute to Sluis Van. Lead by a Procurator-Class Star Battlecruiser, and under the banner of the ORSF, this force is expected to be responding to the security situation on the world.

Stand Off at Sluis Van

As the situation on Sluis Van rapidly develops, there have been many questions, and few answers. What started as protests, and then riots, quickly developed into a full fledged communications black out. That black out ended just a few hours ago.

Since then, we've received an update that a change of power has occurred on the world. A new government, elected by the Sluis Van Congregate--the planets legislature--has taken power on the planet. Their leader, Chandobar Inglet, is a former member of the Congregate and a vocal opponent of what he calls "core influence" on Sluis Van. Khedive Inglet has apparently been quick to solidify his government, replacing previous cabinet officials with supporters, and gaining the approval of the majority of the Congregate.

Recordings of the parliamentary proceedings have been sent to the Holonet News, and are be broadcast on GalSpan, channel 178. These recordings show the previous Khedive, Ruthar Glek, officially resigning from his position after ordering ground based holonet transceivers disabled. What quickly followed was a Congregate vote that installed Khedive Inglet as ruler of Sluis Van.

Since the official announcement of the change of power, the mood of riots and revolution on the world have shifted to one of celebration. Except at the capital cities main spaceport, where anti-Republic protests still rage. The spaceport has been cordoned off by local defense forces. utilizing heavy vehicles such as Manka type Walkers, and fully equipped Infantry. Reports indicate that a group of Republic officials have been secured in the space port, and a group is shuttles are standing by to take them to recently arrived ORSF warships.

These warships, led by a large battle Cruiser, arrived in system in a battle formation. They have been met in orbit by Slussi Sector Defense Forces, who are arrayed in a screening formation between the ORSF and the planet. A tense stand Off is visible in the system, and many are wondering what the next step will be in this situation.

Republic Security Sweep

The Outer Rim has been a rough place to be for many years, with piracy and outlaws having near free reign outside of several highly patrolled regions. With the recent hostility between Hutt Space and the Republic, the new Grand Army of the Republic has begun to take notice. Security forces have been busy in the Outer Rim in the last month, and the tempo of their activities seems to be increasing. Utilizing contacts within local defense forces and law enforcement agencies, the Republic groups seem to be performing a clean sweep of crime in certain areas of the Outer Rim.

According to arrest records, so far, nearly a thousand criminals have been arrested along the border region between the Republic and Hutt Space. It is apparent that the Republic is focusing heavily on arresting those with prior or current ties to the Hutts. The result has been... anti-climatic. While the Republic is being more active than normal, there is simply too much space to cover with the relatively limited forces of the Republic's fledgling military. In areas where the Republic is active, there are noticeable if temporary decreases in crime rates. However, they tend to return to normal levels as soon as they move through.

While the Republic efforts continue, and will inevitably have some impact, the lack of resources currently available means that the impact is negligible in the grand scheme of things.

Fires Over Kuat

BREAKING NEWS: Kuat system in turmoil after Mandator explodes in orbit! Kuat of Kuat and numerous members of the ruling government are unaccounted for!

Dire news from the Kuat system. Less than an hour ago, the Kuati flagship, the Mandator, exploded in orbit. The following broadcast was sent to all ships in the system seconds before the explosion...

"... I repeat, Mandator under attack. Strike team has infiltrated the ship. Our battle droids aren't working! Ship security unable..." The voice stops as klaxons blare through the speakers. "Oh no... we have a critical reactor breach! All hands to emergency escape pods! Get the VIPs out--"

The message goes silent as the Mandator erupted into flames, destroyed by an apparent reactor breech from sabotage. Our records indicate that very few escape pods made it out of the ship prior to the explosion, and only a handful of small shuttles. So far there are no signs of the ruling Kuat of Kuat, or the majority of her cabinet and advisors. This has thrown the Kuat government into turmoil.

With no idea who made it off of the Mandator before the explosion, there is currently a power vacuum in the planet. Several officials in the administration are sealed away in the capitol, attempting to determine who is in control. The Ten families are in an uproar, with even those who had supported Kuat when challenged by Khoss of Knylenn, moving to consolidate their own positions of power. To make matters worse, we believe the Kuat government has lost control over half of Kuat Drive Yards.

Prior to this incident, the Techno Union, with the permission of the Kuat government, began deploying over one hundred thousand battle droids and support personnel to the Kuat system. These droids were positioned throughout Kuat Drive Yards facilities across the system, as well as on the primary orbital axis. According to our admittedly limited information, these Droids activated emergency protocols upon yhe destruction of the Mandator. Eighty percent of space borne facilities in the Kuat system, and half of the orbital axis, are under the Techno Unions de facto control. According to information, they have sealed Kuat officials and workers into various offices, storage facilities, and other secure areas as a form of protective custody.

On the ground, there is a tense stand Off between Techo Union forces and the Kuati defense forces. The capitol itself is currently surrounded by TU droids, supported by Tanks, and they are preventing any from crossing their security perimeter--again, as a security precaution. To make matters worse, approximately a quarter of ground forces commanders have expressed their desire to support other families instead of the Kuat family.

My fellow sentients, we are witnessing the start of a civil war on one of the most illustrious core worlds in the Republic...

Here is the situation... half of Kuat's TPC is under TU control. No military sales may be completed until this is solved. No new construction orders. Government stability has been reduced to critical. There are active lines being drawn that look very much like a civil war is unfolding.

1.  Trade Federation 848.7 bil - The "returning champions" from last year, the Trade Defense Force still sits quite comfortably head and shoulders above the rest at number one.  However, with the current chaos in the Galaxy rising and crisis after crisis evolving, the Trade Federation has been not only eerily silent but has also managed to avoid most current Galactic issues.  Some claim this to be indifference, while others whisper that the top brass at the TDF are hiding losses.  Their fleet composition has changed little if at all throughout the year, with only a few dozen warships of note and a massive supply fleet of almost six hundred vessels, including dozens of the largest in the Galaxy, the Lucrehulk.  The Trade Defense Force operates roughly a Corps worth of battle droids, the only thing they have that could pass for an "army", which is mostly relegated to ship defense and the occasional trade dispute settlement.

2.  Bormea Sector 556.7 bil - One of several surprising newcomers to this year's list are the military forces of the Bormea Sector.  Not only surprising in their place on this list with consideration to how small their fleet is (a bit over 70 warships), but also that much of their annual upkeep is tied to training their crews to the highest of standards.  Their lack of strategic quantity could be dismissed as a consequence of their strategic position in the Galaxy, wedged quite comfortably between the Esselian Empire and "Defender of the Core" Azure Sector.   Furthermore, with one of the most strategic intersections in the Galaxy at Brentaal IV they can expect a large and quick response from any of their neighbors.  This affords them the ability to concentrate their money and efforts towards Corulag Academy and top tier training standards.  Though their army is a full army in size, most of them are fresh recruits waiting for their chance to be pressure crushed into diamonds, or die trying.

3. Coruscanti SubSector 537.4 bil - The other surprise to the list is the Coruscanti SubSector at number three.  While it should not be questionable that the Capital of the Republic is well guarded, much of the Coruscanti Force is of recent acquisitions.  The Coruscanti Fleet is a bit over two-hundred warships, but also including a dozen Dreadnaught Heavy Cruisers, and a half-dozen Battlecruisers which are all manpower intensive and contributing to their large sailor count and subsequent budget weight.  Coruscant Ground Forces consist of mostly Security Forces with a large professional and elite corps of troops along with several thousand ground vehicles.

4. Rendili Sector 273.6 bil - Fourth in the Galaxy in terms of upkeep is the Rendili Sector.  Much like Coruscant and Corulag, Rendili has placed a large emphasis on expertly trained crews and top-of-the-line fighter pilots their annual budget upkeep reflects this.  With nearly two-dozen Battlecruisers lead by a newly refitted Inexpugnable, the Rendili Fleet numbers around two-hundred vessels however it is lacking in starfighters.  In a reverse position of their Starfighter forces the Rendili Army has barely a Corps worth of infantry and a large quantity of nearly three-thousand combat walkers, though thankfully to their enemies they are extraordinarily lacking in the strategic mobility department.

5. Azure Sector 257.9 bil - The fabled "Defender of the Core" sits quite uncomfortably in the middle of the pack at number five.  With almost seven hundred warships, the Azure Shield is the second largest fleet by hull quantity in the Galaxy, operated by nearly a half-million men.  Though the men and women of the Navy are of good quality stock, the tin cans to which they ply the stars are being called in some of avante-garde military circles as "legacy" ships to differentiate between the long serving robust platforms of before with the new-fangled warships flying off the design tables in the past few months.  Some say if this trend is keeps on its current trajectory venerable ships such as the Valor and Hammerhead cruisers will be sent to the scrapper and breakneck speeds.  The Azure Army is centered around a solid corps of men with mediocre walker support, a vast majority of Army Personnel are draftees awaiting their assignments to get their mettle tested and government approved. 

6.  Tapani Federation 237.6 -  A rather unexpected contender to the top ten, the Tapani Federation has risen to number six.  The Tapani Defense Forces are an odd formation within the top ten, as they are one of the few if only force to shed almost all its legacy equipment and simultaneously furnish it with new designs.  Further aiding in this in endeavor was the recent merger of the forces of the Tapani House Guards with the Freeworlds Common Navy and a Federalized Ground Force to form one Federal Military.  The Tapani Federal Navy comes in a bit over four hundred warships and is running a "Blue/Gold" scheme of staffing warships at 130%, though recent investigations of this program seem to be denoting readiness as lower than anticipated along with a small but highly trained Marine Corps with contemporary combat experience.  Another surprising oddity of the Tapani Fleet is its rather large and dedicated support arm of over one hundred freighters of various size and capacity, including several Hospital Ships from the Royal Alderaanian Engineers with plans to greatly increase this particular branch in the near future.  The Tapani Starfighter Corps operating nearly eight thousand fighters split between the Starfighter Corps and Navy Flight Branch guards the skies over the many Tapani worlds while The Tapani Federal Army currently fields a full army of professional soldiers backed by nearly seven thousand examples of the heaviest and most lethal tanks and walkers on the market.  A large and capable military with strategic quantities of all arms and equipment coupled with expeditionary capacity to participate in joint operations compounded with some of the most easily defensible space in the Galaxy makes the Tapani Defense Forces are operationally far more capable than their ranking would indicate.

7.  Calamari Sector 237.3 bil - Another conundrum in a sea of conundrums on this list is the Calamari Sector at number seven.  Further compounding the issue is that the Calamari Sector ranks seven, despite having the largest combat fleet in the Galaxy at almost eight hundred warships.  Though most of these are of Corvette size, they have a very respectable Cruiser force as well, to include new Mon Cal and Quarren cruiser designs.  Of additional note for a water world is the operation of nearly a half-million B1 Battle Droids, and a small battalion-sized element of a new trooper type known only to us as "Tau", a comprehensive battlefield management system and force multiplication battle armor. 

8.  Kuat Sector 184 bil - Jane's had a disposition of the Royal Kuati Forces, however in recent light of their internal turmoil we cannot state with confidence what forces belong to which side, and such have declined to disseminate anymore information.

9.  Corellia Sector 167.1 bil - Even with almost seven hundred warships, the Corellians come in at ninth on the Top Ten.  As befitting Corellian tradition this fleet is a majority made up of Corvettes, with a moderate cruiser element and led by an older model Inexpugnable.  The Corellian Army is small but moderately professional and has been seen doing more parades than maneuver exercises.  They also operate a medium sized starfighter element heavily mitigated by their galactically renown piloting skills.

10.  Grand "Army" of the Republic 148 bil -  The ironically named Grand Army of the Republic barely limps to the Top Ten coming in last on the list.  Despite the contentious process in the Senate for its creation it was expected to be armed and manned in short order, however it has been languishing in the procurement department, with its most effective asset being the large pool of professional voidsmen awaiting ship assignments as they come in.  At a little over one hundred warships, it has the unenviable task of having the largest area to cover with the smallest force available. The Army part of the Grand Army of the Republic can barely field a Division, and is suffering at the expensive of the Navy which will only continue to ensure Inter-Departmental rivalry is alive and well in the GAR.  Its greatest advantage is not any ship or hardware but political, but that it is the mandated military arm of the Republic and enjoys special privileges denied to other Republic Planetary Defense Forces.

New Military Schools
Military schools around the Republic moving double time...

Military academies across the Republic have been working overtime as the demands of Sector Defense Forces, and the Grand Army of the Republic, are increasing at a dramatic rate. Even schools with millennia of history, such as the Anaxes War College or the academies of Corulag, have found themselves struggling to meet the demands of the galaxy at large. Many governments across the Republic have taken notice, and are taking steps to address the issue.

On Corulag, a new batch of students from the Seswenna Sector have just begun their curriculum. These students, along with a cadre of Corulagi students who are now in the Orrineswa Military Academy, represent the first batches of exchange students between the two Republic members. Along with a technological exchange program, this effort intends to grow the capabilities of all parties involved, with Seswenna benefiting from the advanced training of Corulag, and Corulag benefitting from the practical experience of Seswenna.

In the Azure Sector, things are even more hectic. A government program aimed at developing a new training system is in full swing, and will see the way training for war changed. Recently, the Azure Sector has begun a program of conscription, to bolster its defense forces. However, instead of leaving these servicemembers with just a few short weeks of training, the Azure Sector has developed a robust series of training camps, academies, and schools. These new institutions will be focused on training large groups of conscripts, bringing them up to the level of training of the average professional soldier. Many analysts are calling the new program genius, allowing the Azure Sector to have a large and rapidly trainable pool of servicemembers, while also allowing them to advance to more specialized roles. Detractors of the program criticize the need for such a program, stating that while tensions across the galaxy are high, the Republic is not at war, and there is simply no need to conscript this many individuals.

Finally, surprisingly, the Sluis Van government has announced a large scale expansion of it's military forces. The new Khedive confirmed in a public speech, that the Sluis Van People's Defense Force would be formed, aimed at replacing much of the Sector Defense Force that might soon find itself under new command. This People's Defense Force will be made of volunteers, and will field a new series of advanced weaponry that are under developed. These statements brought a shockingly enthusiastic reaction from the crowds gathered to witness the speech, and reports indicate that the number of volunteers for the new force are already swelling.

Tales of the Jedi
Part 1

Recently, the Jedi embarked on a large scale initiative to combat corruption and keep an eye on events within the Republic. With over a hundred Jedi roaming the galaxy, maintaining law and order within the Republic, our news room has been flooded with reports of their activities. That is why we are bringing you this new program, titled Tales of the Jedi. In this series, we will present information on the latest activities of the Jedi who are working to protect the Republic.

- The Mytaranor Escapade
Qui-Gon Jinn is a relatively new Jedi Master, having achieved the title a little over five years ago. However, he comes from an illustrious line of Jedi Masters, having been trained from a young age by Jedi Councilor Dooku, who was himself trained by the Grand Master of the Order, Master Yoda. With such an illustrious history, it is no surprise that he would play a pivotal role in this new initiative, and be the first to make the news waves. Just a week after arriving in the Mid Rim, Master Jinn and his padawan Xanatos, found themselves in the cross hairs of a Trandoshan slaver. 

Apparently after hearing rumors of a slave ring operating out of Esau's Ridge, a smuggler den on the world of Tholatin, the two moved to investigate. After gaining the Cooperation of Wookiee members of the Sector Defense Forces, the two Jedi and their allies moved in to free the slaves being held in the smuggler den. Needless to say, the endeavor turned to a violent confrontation quickly. After nearly two hours, the Jedi and their Wookiee allies managed to free nearly fifty slaves from across the region, ending the career of the slaver. Reports indicate that a gang of nearly 100 individuals were arrested, and are being held on Kashyyk.

- A Sticky Situation on Gyndine
While Master Jinn was busying himself freeing slaves, it would seem that a more eager Knight by the name of Jorus C'baoth was excited to dive into a world known by many to be a haven for Hutt Crime Lords. Consular C'baoth made his way to Gyndine, leading a group of Jedi Knights and Antarian Rangers, in an effort to ascertain if rumors of a pending Hutt take over the world were true. After arriving on the planet, the Jedi and his group made their way to the governor's office. Reports from the governor and the Jedi are conflicting. The Jedi insist that they were simply attempting to gain the governor's cooperation during their investigation, the Governor on the other hand had this to say... "Jedi C'baoth didn't even wait for my staff to let him into my office, he simply barged in with two other Knights and who I expect are those Rangers that ride the Jedi coat tails. They threatened me, with violence and prosecution, if I did not bend every resource at my office's disposal to help them root out some non-existent Hutt from our world. I refused and had them escorted from the building by armed guards."

We at Holonet News are attempting to confirm the governor's statements, however local news sources are broadcasting the governor's view of the events as fact.

Since that day, Jedi C'baoth and his group have been combing through the underworld of Gyndine, hunting for someone who they believe is working for the Besadii Kajidic and the Hutt Cooperative Council. "The individual we are searching for is considered armed and dangerous. He goes by the moniker of 'Teal'c,' and we believe he is a member of the new Hutt Guards, attempting to organize violent revolution to Republic rule of this world. I will not see another Republic planet go the way of Sluis Van, or worse, fold to the Hutts. I will find him, and I will bring him and his despicable co-conspirators to Justice."

So far, there have been no reports of success in tracking down this Teal'c individual, and Jedi C'baoth and his team are still actively searching. They have, however, arrested more than two dozen criminals, most of them being turned over with missing limbs or other injuries. They are currently being held by the Sector Rangers, pending prosecution on violations of Republic law. These arrests have met with protests from the governor of Gyndine.

Tales of the Jedi
Part 2

The Debacle on Esseles
As the Jedi continue to venture across the galaxy, we continue to get word of their deeds. Sadly, our first story for you tonight does not have a happy ending. A group of Jedi Knights, led by Jedi Master Pong Krell, were following a lead on the planet Esseles. According to the information released by Esselian authorities, the Jedi had received word of a shipment of illegal spice being moved through one of the capital cities secondary spaceports. The Jedi Master ordered his Knights to proceed with the operation, not waiting for back up from local security forces.

The results were disastrous. 

While we have not been provided a full report of the incident, we are aware that several Jedi have been killed in action. According to local security forces, four Jedi Knights and two Padawans were deployed to the Spaceport, while Master Krell attempted to coordinate with the cities police constable. These Knights discovered the location of the transaction, and a fire fight ensued. During the confrontation, holorecorders recorded an incident involving two of the Knights and a single woman, who appeared to be wielding a metallic sword and firing bolts of lightning at the Knights. Their battle resulted in the death of two Knights. In a near by area of the spaceport, two more Knights and their padawans engaged a group of heavily armored soldiers. Our military experts point to the armor worn by these individuals as being Mandalorian in origin, but they are unaware of what sect they belong to. The Knights were pushed back, and one Padawan was lost during the exchange.

While the Jedi were unsuccessful in capturing the individual behind this deal, they were able to secure nearly five hundred kilograms of illegal spice, and prevent its distribution on the world.

BREAKING NEWS: Kuat Capitol Under siege!!! - Month 10, Day 35, 950 ARR

Gentlebeings, we have received confirmation from reporters on the ground, that a large force of Kuati Opposition Forces has encircled the capitol building and is engaging in a Siege against the Kuati loyalists. 

Reports indicate that approximately one hour ago, forces loyal to House Knylenn and House Adrim moved into Kuat City and approached the capitol building. Techno Union forces, who had been maintaining an orderly security perimeter, allowed these forces to pass through their lines. Shortly after, the loyalist defenders of the capitol were ordered to surrender by the forces loyal to the opposition.

Our information reports that there has been gunfire exchanged between the two groups. Opposition forces are currently being backed by several dozen Armored Assault Tanks from the Kuat Sector PDF, as well as several thousand B1 Battle Droids with Kuati markings. The defenders, who are grossly out numbered, have retreated into the capitol complex and firing on anyone who approaches. Reports indicate they are calling for support.

Unverified Reports indicate that the TU Commander and the Opposition Commander were seen having a meeting as the opposition forces moved into position. Word among the Opposition is that the TU is backing them, though there has been no official statement.

At the same time, Khoss Knylenn issued a statement: "The Kuati family is no longer suited to running our world or our businesses. You have forty eight hours to surrender. Please, we do not wish to spill the blood of our brothers, surrender and no harm or prosecution will fall upon you "

Arkanian Melee

Word has come to us today of a stunning victory by a coalition force of the Grand Army of the Republic and the Rendili Sector, against what's been dubbed the "Arkanian Renegades".  It appears as if a faction of the Arkanian Dominion had attempted a coup on the capital of Adascopolis but had failed to capture Dominion leadership and devolved into a brutal conflict for control of the city and areas around it.  Pinned down around the capital and besieged by tens of thousands of cybernetic monstrosities it seemed as if it was only a matter of time before they reached the Dominion Leadership and a small contingent of Jedi who happened to already be present when they witnessed the descent of scores of starfighters and over a dozen Axehead Frigates beginning their landing approach after attempts at communication failed due to battle damage, jamming, and slicing of the planetary communication networks. 

GAR coalition forces, led by Rendili with a significant contribution from the Rendili Home Defense Fleet cautiously descended upon the planet, sending out waves of starfighters to clear the skies and pathfinders to secure landing zones.  Slowly but surely, each Axehead landed to disgorge their compliments where men and walkers of the 1st and 2nd Marine Brigades fanned out to secure the spaceport only to get ambushed by redirected Renegade forces.  The fighting took place inside the sealed city and a running battle took place on the tundra outside it, with Arkanian "Kataphrax", a particular nightmarish looking cybernetic monstrosity, going up against the brand new All Terrain Experimental Transport or AT-XE.  In its combat debut the AT-XE acquitted itself well despite the speed of the enemy and limited traverse of the main gun, helped along by Special Forces in CR-20's pushing past the line of contact and disrupting their rear areas. 

Arkanian "Kataphrax" seized during the siege of Adascopolis

Inside the seal of the city things were much worse for the Coalition.  Inside there is little room for maneuver or ability to call on the substantial air support that was brought, but also room to allow Kataphrax to roam down narrow alleys and large hallways or pedestrian ways.  These and other cybernetic horrors increased their pressure and did not relent, a combat tempo no one in the Coalition was used to or planned for.  The Marines might have been broken if not for the Coalition to be able to land significant reinforcements, which took far too long as many had to be transferred in space to other vessels, and a surprising and timely counterstrike from the Jedi and Dominion army survivors.  For almost five days of no rest and constant fighting, the Renegades began melting away and the siege slowly lifted, leaving destruction and dead in their wake.  Most if any continued fighting is from sporadic pockets of uncoordinated resistance.  The GAR Coalition had been victorious, but at a heavy cost.

The End of the Pakuuni Pirates
Mon Cala goes to war...

For many years, the Pakuuni Sector has been a source of piracy on the trade routes leading into the Calamari Sector. While this piracy has been low level in nature, there is no denying that it did present a threat to the Calamari Sector's ability to trade with their neighbors and the remainder of the Republic as a whole. In fact, if not for the fact that the Calamari Sector as a whole is relatively self-sufficient, this may have posed a more significant threat. However, with their sights set on increasing trade in the region, the Calamari Sector has chosen to rid themselves of the annoyance that was the Pakuuni Sector's band of pirates.

In a large scale and organized sweep, a flotilla of over two hundred Calamari warships began to move throughout the Sector. Using a planet hopping style of movement, the flotilla moved from system to system, sweeping clear any opposition in their path. While this did allow the Calamari to secure themselves as they moved, it also provided the Pirate Lord of Pakuuni, Floun Ders (a male Quarren from Mintooine) to organize his forces and prepare to engage the Calamari Sector's flotilla.

What Lord Ders did not expect, was the advancements made by the Calamari in the art of warfighting. For over a year now, the Calamari Sector has been putting a special emphasis on training and building up a knowledge base necessary to be successful at war. In addition, their efforts to fully integrate the variety of species from the Sector into their force, gave them a tactical advantage over their opponent. While Ders was expecting the Flotilla to fight like Mon Calamari, he was not expecting them to fight like Quarren. When the two forces met, the rag tag group of nearly two hundred pirate vessels was unable to match the might of the well organized and efficient Calamari Flotilla. Within thirty minutes of engaging over the world of Pakuuni, Ders flagship "Tentacle Corsair" was left floating in an expanding pile of slag and debris. His forces were routed, with half their number destroyed and the remainder fleeing in every direction. 

As their defenders fled, so too did many on the surface of Pakuuni. The main space port, "Shadow Bay," had served as a shadow port for pirates and smugglers for many years. Now, as the Calamari ground forces bore down on them, it became a death trap waiting to happen. Once the Calamari landed, they were met with minimal resistance, and those that were not able to flee surrendered relatively quickly. 

Over the next week, the flotilla broke into smaller pieces, sweeping through the remainder of the Sector and engaging the pirates they found. Reports indicate that any pirate presence left in the Pakuuni Sector is minimal, or in hiding. It is expected, that with a bit of effort and encouragement from the Calamari Sector government, the Pakuuni Sector could become a vital trade hub between the Calamari and the rest of the galaxy.

Tales of the Jedi

Part 3: Padawans Lost

We have received troubling reports from the Jedi in the field. As many of you know, the Jedi have been undertaking a large scale mission to counter growing crime and corruption across the Republic. As a part of this mission, the Jedi have left Coruscant, and scattered across the galaxy. Many of these Jedi have taken their padawans, inexperienced learners who are training by their masters into full Jedi Knights. We've received word that two of these Padawans are missing in action, kidnapped by forces working in opposition to the Jedi.

Our sources report that three separate attacks took place within hours of eachother. These attacks occurred on Kashyyk, Esseles, and Devaron.

On Kashyyk, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Xanatos were working with local authorities to locate new homes for their recently freed slaves. While moving through the capital city, they came under attack by a group of heavily armored individuals attempted to ambush the Master and his Apprentice. Holo recordings of the incident show Master Jinn successful fending off three attackers after they successfully used stun blasters to subdue his Apprentice. While Master Jinn does not seem to have eliminated any of the assailants, they were forced to flee after Wookiee security forces arrived to assist Master Jinn.

The attacks on Esseles and Devaron were more successful. 

On Devaron, Jedi Master Plo Koon--still recovering from wounds received on Elrood--was following up on a potential slaver operation with his new Padawan, Bultar Swan. While leaving their temporary accommodations, they were ambushed by five heavily Armored individuals. The recordings show Master Plo struggling as he engaged the individuals, all of whom utilized flame throwers, stun blasts, grenades, and shock nets. To the surprise of many, Master Plo was subdued and left unconscious and restrained, though he is responsible for the death of two of his assailants. Recordings show the young Bultar Swan being dragged off by the remaining assailants, along with the dead bodies of their allies. Master Plo was left unconscious and eventually recovered.

Jedi Council member, Master Dooku, had recently arrived on Esseles. Intent to get to the bottom of the issues around the attack against Master Krells forces there, Master Dooku took it into his own hands to further the investigation. With him was his new Apprentice, the twelve year old Komari Vosa. It would appear, that while Master Dooku was occupied meeting with a variety of local officials, Padawan Vosa was able to slip away from her Master's gaze, to explore the world.

The following holo recordings are graphic and not suited for sensitive viewers. Padawan Vosa has been kidnapped as well, falling to a group of five Armored individuals. Recordings show the Padawan fighting valiantly to try and save herself, and calling for assistance, however her assailants wete successful in kidnapping her. The recordings end with Vosa being dragged away, bloodied and broken.

Our information on these assailants is limited, however, our experts believe that the armor and weaponry they are using is Mandalorian in origin. With multiple recordings of these individuals deflecting lightsabers with their armor, and the rather iconic T shaped visored helms, it's easy to agree with them. We will bring updates to this case as they are available.
