  1. Mon Cala Academy of Science Expands! The Mon Cala Academy of Science has received major investments for the Calamari Sector Government. A Sprawling campus is being constructed on Dac which will provide the primary campus. Many satellite campuses are located in other regions and planets throughout the Calamari Sector. The university appears to be geared solely toward Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or STEM as it is known. Many eager students are entering the Bioengineering, Cloning, and Biopharma programs of the College of Biology and Medicine. A tour of their research labs gave us insight on some of the many fields of research being studied here. One professor’s lab was geared toward the bioengineering of algae, another the cloning of tissues and cells, another performed drug treatment trials on a rare disease. The Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Departments are also doing interesting research. While many of these programs are classified research due to being government classified programs, we have gathered many involve the improvement of starship, droid, vehicles, and components of both an industrial and military application. Many on Dac are pleased with the investment into the Academics to maintain a competitive edge on the Sector’s very high research capabilities. Being on the edge of the Rim, this region is not known for many major institutes of learning. This has become just another thing the Calamari Sector has begun to show it’s neighbors in the Rim that anything is possible.
  2. Mon Cala Trade Guild Swims Into the Pakuuni Sector. The Mon Cala Trading Guild has begun opening branches on the few inhabited worlds in the Pakuuni Sector. This has signaled the beginning of their operations in the Sector and their now their operations with the greater galaxy. The construction of resupply stations and spaceports on the Overic Griplink which connects the Calamari Sector to the greater galaxy will allow the Calamari Sector to begin trading on the Perlimian. The planets of Gbu and Turkana have begun coordinating their trade with the MCTG which is operating these new facilities, and the MCTG is now active on the Perlimian. The majority of the trade the MCTG has been conducting has been between Lianna and Calamari Space. Economic insiders explain that the two entities are in negotiations over a collection of economic and security agreements between the two that will be designed to foster economic growth and safety in their region of the Rim.
  3. Supply Situation in the Core Multiple worlds in the core, such as the Azure and Rendili Sectors, have been buying large amounts of fuel, foodstuff, ores, medical goods, and military supplies. This has led to a situation in the core in which shortages are being experienced on many worlds. The markets were not quite prepared for the level of stockpiling and hoarding that has been going on in the core, with major players gobbling up goods while other sectors are going without. Suppliers have been trying to catch up, but the abrupt stockpiling of Azure has led to a domino effect in which others have begun following suit. This panic buying has exasperated the situation and created a chaotic market with market shortages and uneven distribution of goods. Many are complaining of the supply issues, with one angry trader interviewed saying “This is ridiculous, I think the government planned this and has come up with this Hutt Space scare to try and control us. Wake up sheeple! What’s next, should I expect toilet paper to be scarce on the shelves? I’ve never seen such!” The situation seems to be getting worse. It appears that goods travelling to and from the core have hit a bottleneck. At first, it seemed trade was inexplicably being throttled midway between the Outer Rim and Core. Our investigative reporters began travelling the Perlimian to determine what the situation was. What we found was a very intriguing situation in the Bormea Sector. Many traders are reporting a spike in stop and searches moving through Brentaal. Many say these searches are taking an unnecessary amount of time and in many situations seem almost purposefully designed to hamper their movement. Many have also reported their freighters being held up in repair facilities after routine maintenance and inspection have led to costly mistakes and repairs outside of their covered service contracts, causing their vessel to remain in system longer than anticipated and costly repairs to be done out of their pocket. There are even reports of Prostitutes and Bartenders offering services at a lower price for traders to entice them to drink and be merry, extending their stay. It appears many Brentaal merchants are buying up these goods with a few traders overhearing that their goods were being loaded to go to warehouses. This news would suggest that Brentaal is stockpiling goods as well. It seems that this combination of increased security operations, more thorough inspections to prevent smuggling and mechanical issues, and a host of other headaches are causing many of the independent traders or those with loose contracts to preemptively offload their cargo to Brentaal House merchants and head back home. As one frustrated freighter captain put it, "my crew is drunk and force knows where, my inspection time has doubled so as to supposedly crack down on smuggling and Hutt security concerns, and I've got this guy shouting in my ear a price that saves me money if I just go ahead and sell. So that's what I'm doing. Going North would cost me triple by the time I got to the Azure Sector, so it's a no brainer." Panic buying in the core and the current bottleneck on the Perlimian has led to prices of common supplies in the core rising drastically. This has created an interesting situation where the core economies that are currently stagnant facing major supply issues, while the poorer Rim has stocked shelves. Many traders that are affiliated with core sector governments as well as those in the rim are trying to circumvent Brentaal on the Perlimian, with those coming from the rim using the Vathkree Trade Corridor and those coming from the core using hyperspace lanes to reach the Hydian Way. When asked for comment, a representative of House Curovao, said: "one would expect in these uncertain times a tightening of security and standards to ensure not just the flow of goods, but the safety of the Core peoples from the smuggling of goods or even dangerous individuals. Unfortunately, many wish to take advantage of the current crisis, and it is the duty of the Merchant Houses, collectively, to take measures to protect the Core and our own people. The unintended side effect of a minority of transporters freely deciding it is in their best interests to sell their goods here, rather than further along their routes, is simply something our agents are taking advantage of, partially to ensure these goods do not languish on Brentaal instead of reaching our Core brethren further along." Note: The supply situation in the core is becoming critical. If actions aren't taken to remedy the situation, core economies will begin suffering greatly within a few months. The Rim too faces the decision of sending more of their resources to the core risking shortages or to begin holding some back for themselves. Those that have already bought up resources will weather the storm for some time without corrective measures, others will suffer if nothing is done.
  4. Alderaan Makes Major Investment in the Lambda Sector! The Alderaan Sector has invested a large sum of credits into the Lambda Sector. Seeking to secure a variety of goods, the Alderaan Sector has begun opening businesses and conducting a large amount of trade in the sector. This investment has seen the Lambda Sector economy soar, with some unfortunate side effects. Inflation is becoming a growing concern, reaching 5% above last year’s numbers. This is driving up the costs of items for the local population, and simply put, Alderaanian Luxury Goods are too expensive for the average citizen of the Sector. If it is not brought under control by the local government, it could lead to a bubble bursting and a recession soon after. On a positive note, unemployment is at an all-time low as Alderaanian companies hire local workers, and local companies expand operations. Although the economy is soaring and unemployment is at an all-time low, there are some within the sector who are complaining about the heavy involvement of a core world in the economy of a poor rim world. There are many who would agree with the concerns, as fear grows that it will be easy for a powerful core world to exploit those within the Lambda Sector. Groups within the Lambda Sector are claiming their sector government is essentially being bought by the Alderaanians. Despite the situation in the Lambda Sector, the Alderaanians are now securing a variety of goods at lower cost. Freighters loaded with minerals, ores, blasters, and foodstuffs have been arriving periodically from the Lambda Sector. With these items being hot commodities in the core, it is of no shock the Alderaanians have focused heavily on importing these goods.
  5. Calamari Sector Invests in Commercial Shipbuilding, Forms the Mon Cala Trading Guild The local Calamari Sector government has begun investing heavily in civilian freighter production, with MC Shipyards gleefully expanding their civilian freighter production capacity. It appears there has also been an organization of a guild called the Mon Cala Trade Guild that is working closely with MC Shipyards and the government to form a trading organization. Membership has came from prexisting native traders as well as a growing number of aspiring traders who are joining the MCTG crews. Administrative offices on Dac with the MCTG insignia have begun opening as well as offices on every world throughout the sector. New Spaceports are being built on Dac as well and many improvements to hyperlane travel in the sector have been done, with new paths being mapped and beacons being updated. It appears the new MCTG is destined to take over trade in the Calamari sector and the nearby Lothal and Dominus Sectors. With ongoing patrols that began earlier in the year by the Cerulean Shield through the Calamari Sector and southward into the Lothal and Dominus Sectors, this area of space has remained relatively safe and as such an improvement to trading capabilities was sought. Locals in the sector and MC Shipyards are happy about the new guild as supplies are moving across the sector more efficiently than ever. Shelves throughout the sector remain stocked and prices on everyday products have begun to go down in response to the organization of trade, leading to many in the sector viewing the MCTG’s creation as beneficial.
  6. Calamari Sector Seeks to End Protests! The local Mon Calamari Sector government is meeting with protestors on Mintooine. It is believed that King Yos Kalina and Chieftan Nossor Ri are meeting with the organizers of the protest to discuss their grievances and to seek solutions. We are unsure as to the full extent of the conversations, but a governmental aide we spoke with said that the King and Chieftan will be outlining the security of the sector and addressing their concerns while conveying the benefits of the "Tau" or "Greater Good". In the meantime, the government has been allocating public space to protestors to peacefully assemble and so far have been accommodating to protestors. Most notable so far has been no involvement with military forces, with local police merely there to assist with guiding traffic and ensuring protestors can safely peaceably assemble.
  7. Talas Taps Into Energy The Calamari Sector has begun investing in the world of Talas. Massive refineries are being constructed that mimic the world of Mustafar and are sifting their lava flows for metals. These metals are being shipped offworld where they are used with those from Buchich in constructing ships at MC shipyards. Shielded droids from Quarren Industrial have been sent to the world to harvest these materials, which has furthermore seen Quarren Industrial benefitting heavily from the Calamari Sectors investments. While this has been great news for MC Shipyards, what has been an even bigger announcement for them, and the people of the Calamari Sector is the addition of the facilities to capture the generated thermal energy of the planet. While these refineries may harvest metals, their true economic power lies in their energy generation. It is already being said within the sector that the planet is projected to be utilized in a similar way to the planet of Sarapin in the core. While the sort of investment to reach Sarapin’s level has nowhere near began, the planet of Talas is projected to supply the Calamari Sector with all of its energy needs. With MC Shipyards, MC Foundries, and Quarren Industrial all benefitting greatly from a major reduction in their operational costs. People throughout the Sector are also thrilled with the project as energy prices are expected to plummet in the Sector and provide the average citizen with more disposable wealth. Many more ecologically minded are also applauding the decision to pursue this path to address the energy needs of the Sector instead of utilizing chemical fuels and other “dirtier” forms of energy.
  8. Massive Colonial Infrastructure Expansion in the Calamari Sector Calamari space has begun a massive infrastructure project on nearly every colony in the sector. Residential areas are seeing large scale updates and expansions. New affordable spacious homes and living quarters are becoming available to local residents and migrants from Dac, leading to better living conditions on planets throughout the sector. Government agents revealed the massive investment into colonial infrastructure is being designed to accommodate future investments into the industrial and commercial assets of the colonies. This announcement has added to the already positive opinion local colonial governments have of the project that has already brought considerable investment into each world. Not only are residential areas receiving attention, transportation and other government services are seeing an improvement with new libraries, schools, hospitals, and emergency services. Spaceports and other items in the logistical realm are being improved as well, with all of the new districts being designed with plans for future expansions. The most exciting of the expansions has been to the entertainment sector. Many new theatres, casinos, nightclubs, museums, stadiums, and cultural centers are being constructed to provide entertainment to the growing population and to provide a boost to the quality of life for all in the colonies. One thing of note has been a growing increase in rhetoric around the concept of the “Greater Good”, something the Sector administration has been spreading over the year. With the expansion also being tied into the spreading of this concept, we are seeing a growing number of locals in the sector embracing it. Neighborhoods consisting of a mix of Calamari and Quarren are becoming more frequent and a sense of collectiveness has become normalized in public, with the common site of Quarren and Mon Calamari working together and engaging in social events.
  9. Expansion on Buchich A massive expansion project has begun on the world of Buchich, a colony of the Calamari Sector. New residential zones are being made with a variety of housing for Quarren and Mon Calamari individuals to live in. To compensate for the increase in population, new hospitals and police precincts are being constructed as well to provide wider coverage of emergency services to a growing population. New theatres, museums, sports arenas, and nightlife venues are popping up in these new areas as well. Employment at the colony seems to be attached to the rich ore deposits of the planet with the mining industry being the main source of employment on the planet. Major expansions in the tunnels and mines have begun as well as the prospecting of new deposits. Droid labor has been brought in to assist the miners in the more dangerous situations to prevent unnecessary risks. Despite the work being in the mining industry, many new colonists are arriving from Dac to start a new life and are enjoying the many amenities that have been provided by the government. The ores are expected to go to the Mon Calamari Shipyards to be used in the creation of their products as well as provide materials for the expansion of colonies. This is expected to greatly reduce the operational costs of MC Shipyards, which is one of the largest employers in the sector. This will likely have secondary affects improving the economy of the sector as a whole and is improving the local's faith in the economy of their sector.
  10. Mon Calamari and Quarren Sparring During Large Scale Training Formation of the Cerulean Shield! News from the Calamari Sector, it appears the locals have begun constructing new training facilities in their domain to serve a new generation of soldier in the Calamari Sector. The people of Dac have had unsteady relations in times past, leading to civil war and creating a situation for a need for standing militaries. The soldiers of Dac have not been renowned for being exceptional warriors but have nevertheless served with honor. With the increasingly hostile nature of the Rim, the locals have been taking measures to begin arming and training themselves in the art of planetary defense. Instead of training to combat each other in a civil war, the Mon Calamari and Quarren have begun joining together and training in mixed race battalions that are displaying a sense of collectiveness. It appears the forces of Calamari Space will rotate through training facilities dedicated to certain programs, with peoples from all over the sector mixing and working together. The Quarren-Mon Cal troops have been dubbed the "Cerulean Shield" and in media are being portrayed as the bulwark that protects the people of the Calamari Sector. Emblems of the Cerulean Shields have been seen emblazoned on uniforms and armor of recruits throughout the sector and a sense of unity amongst the two races can be seen. Our reporters would like to note that Calamari Space is relatively isolated and tends to stick to itself. From what we gather the people seem to be somewhat relieved that preventative measures are being taken to bolster defenses in the sector and secure safety and sovereignty. Many have also been inspired by the joint Quarren-Calamari units and are supporting further joint operations in the future.
  11. Quarren and Mon Calamari Now Have Equal Representation! After long deliberations between King Yos Kalina of the Mon Calamari and Chieftan Nossor Ri of the Quarren, it has been decided that the Calamari Sector will now begin to have two Senators represent their vote in the Republic. It appears this decision was made to bridge a gap between both species in terms of representation in the Republic. It seems like this decision was made as part of a greater project to bring together the Quarren and Mon Calamari. We previously reported on the construction of production facilities evenly divided amongst member worlds. Plans have been announced of future investments being spread equally on both Quarren and Mon Calamari worlds. As a further commitment to unity, it appears that the recruits being accepted into new space naval academies throughout the sector that have been built are also being placed into classes that are composed of a mixture of Mon Calamari and Quarren with cultural awareness training and understanding. These new cadets are being assigned vessels in the same manner, with crews of various vessels patrolling space lanes composed of a mix of Quarren and Mon Calamari. There seems to be recurring rhetoric of the “Greater Good” of the Calamari Sector, and an ideology of “together the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” being common themes of some of the talks and discussions that have been coming out of the partnerships between the two.
  12. MC Shipyards Announces Creation of MC Foundries The Calamari Sector has announced the expansion of the MC Shipyard's construction capacity. A new division is being formed called MC Foundries that will serve to produce aquatic and ground vehicles. There are also rumors of plans to go into droid production, with the production of the MCD-1 Drone. The project is being funded by the Techno Union who is investing in the Calamari Sector in order to help the sector fulfill orders for the Techno Union. It appears the MC Foundries facilities are being spread equally between the worlds of Pammant, Dac, and Mintooine. Many citizens have applauded the decision to split it evenly so that job access and production capabilities are being equally distributed. Many have taken note that this has been seen as a positive improvement to Mon Calamari and Quarren relations. Security and military analysts will be closely watching MC Foundries as new designs and products roll out of production lines. A representative for the agency announced to expect a variety of vehicle and droid products being revealed over the year. This announcement has caused many criminal elements in the outer rim to become concerned due to the increasing amount of security measures the Calamari Sector has been undertaking.
  13. Calamari Sector Forms an Anti-Piracy Taskforce Pirates and criminals of the outer rim beware, the Calamari Sector has announced the formation of an anti-piracy taskforce that will be cracking down on criminal elements within the sector. The Sector Government has broken ground on academies on the worlds of Dac, Pammant, and Mintooine that will host training facilities for future crewmen and pilots of the Sector's fleet. Existing training facilities have had their programs updated and will integrate with the new centralized academies. The Sector has begun a large recruitment drive to fill their new academies. It has been notable that recruits are being trained in multicultural groups from a variety of instructors. Instead of the cadets being trained and groom to defend their home planet, they are being pooled together and trained to defend the sector as whole. The new anti-piracy taskforce is purported to be designed around the concept of a mobile fast response fleet that is trained to hunt down pirates and other criminal elements evading the law. This strays from the traditions of many worlds to field and train units to specialize in planetary defense of their homeworld. The formation of this taskforce is rumored to be due to the ongoing struggles of outer rim worlds to combat piracy within their space. The people of the Calamari Sector are taking the news well. Many young men and women are eager to join this new force and hunt down pirates. There has been some grumbling over frictions between cadets due to cultural differences, but there is apparent progress in overcoming these differences and a fostering of unit cohesion. The majority of citizens view the whole taskforce in a positive light as many have grown tired of dealing with piracy issues so close to home.
  14. Calamari Sector Announces Drone Design The Calamari Sector has announced the unveiling of a new division within the Mon Calamari Shipyards that is producing droids instead of ships. MC Shipyards announced the future production of a light drone that may greatly help everyone from spacers and crewman to law enforcement and anti-terror taskforces. The design is question is so far only known as the Mon Calamari Drone-1 or MCD-1 for short. There is rumored to be two variants. One that is being marketed to the general public that fulfills logistical roles akin to an astromech droid, and another that is made to assist in combat. While currently only a little has been to us, we know that is designed to overwhelm criminal and terrorists' positions. Swarming around their targets and peppering them with blaster fire. It is rumored that there will be a grenade loading functionality as well, providing limited capabilities against armored targets and defensive positions. It appears the Calamari Sector has saw an opportunity to provide security forces in the galaxy with a tool to assists forces in dealing with heavy combat on worlds experiencing terrorist organizations or advanced criminal elements. It is rumored the Calamari Sector itself will likely begin adding many of them to the planetary defense forces of worlds located there at base cost, something the local defense forces seem excited about.
