  1. An update on the game pause. There are four actions left to process. It's been that way for a few days. There aren't particularly difficult actions to process, or particularly important in relation to growth automation or budget processing... But they deserve to be processed like every other action that was processed before we move forward. Unfortunately staff bandwidth has been low following our push to clear the rest of the queue last week. So while we are eager to finish processing these actions and move forward with the procedural steps of processing GDP growth, Population growth, opening budget submissions, and resuming the game round. We haven't had the capacity to get it done quickly. We are a small team, and we have responsibilities in real life, and we have responsibilities to other aspects of the game as well. In addition to running the present game round we are continuing development work on features that will improve the game in the future, QOL features for players, and for staff. One of the goals I had for this pause was to create more resources for players to explain how aspects of the game worked. We began the round with the notion that while we beta tested game systems we would respond to player inquiries with a policy of "find out in character". I believe that such a system has merit - but it has proved frustrating for some players. However, thus far during the pause I have had no time to write up player facing descriptions for how things work. Which remains a priority to ease player frustrations. This remains a priority, but may not realistically get done before we un pause the game. Our goal is for the game to be fun but some aspects of running the game and delivering that fun experience to our community are time consuming and not fun for staff. That doesn't mean we won't do them, just that it might take time. As always we remain open to growing the game staff to increase the work we can get done on any given project at any give time. And I would like to thank Xaph who volunteered to help at the assistant staff level - but we are not looking to add assistant level workload at this time, as our experience is that it often yields less work output then the supervision time required. None the less we appreciate the offer. If you are interested in joining the team please feel free to contact me so we can discuss how well you might fit in with the team at present. For the present, we will continue to move toward re opening the game round as quickly as possible and improving the game experience as best we are able, and hope you'll hang in there with us. Cheers.

  2. Among the QoL (Quality of Life) improvements I've bene working on for staff, are improvements to the unit spreadsheets that staff use to calculate unit costs and generate the text that gets inserted into the unit database. I've been working on adding missing fields (like Atmospheric speeds for units) and delineating options for units to have consumables tracked by days or months, and cargo to be tracked by metric tons or Kilograms. I've been working to integrate two separate spreadsheets that track starships vs smaller units into a single sheet with formulas that delineate by unit type and category. And in the course of that integration discovered a divergence in unit formulas for TPC, which ballooned TPC costs for specific unit categories like Large Transports. Also during this work it was discovered that Starfighter type units were being charged 35 times as much as other unit categories for cargo and consumables. I also took time to fix the consumables tracking to our new official 35 Day / 10 Month calendar. Long term this work will make work easier for staff, allow us to track and publish more variables for unit stats, and make unit costs more accurate. In the short term, what it means is that unit Costs, Upkeeps, and TPV are being updated to reflect that changes and fixes that were made to the formulas and the unit data. At this time all Starships of size Freighter and larger have been updated with corrected values. Starfighters, Large Starfighters, and Large Transports are being updated presently and will be done before the unpause. Other unit types will continue to be reviewed and updated in the future.

  4. I wanted a special shoutout to Shadows for putting in tireless work to get this game up and running! Without him, we'd have to face reality, so big thanks to him and the rest of the mod team who've helped out!

  5. Due to continual complaints, from multiple individuals both in the player community and staff; as well as at least one person resigning from their planet over his continued behavior; Moose has been banned. This was a unanimous decision by the Administrators, and took into account input from current and past moderators. This was not a decision we undertook lightly. In happier news, please welcome Redhunter to the Moderator Team.

  6. All submitted budgets have been processed. Org Taxes are presently being collected. If you are part of an organization with published taxes, expect to see your share of that payment deducted from your treasury. Also, please anticipate the round resuming sometime in the next 24 hours, and plan accordingly.

  7. I have recently noticed several instances of players editing in character content. That is not allowed on SWD. We have enabled players ability to edit posts on this forum because we are all adults and we understand that it is convenient to be able to edit posts for formatting and other issues that do not impact in character play. But using this power to change or remove the content you have posted in in character forums is not allowed and is considered a form of cheating in this community. If you are a new player or were unaware of this please consider this your formal warning not to do so. Further instances of this will result in game warnings and may result in our needing to turn off the ability of players to edit posts.

  9. Hi all! I’m SpaceMocha92! I originally found SWD in like 2006 when I was in high school, played under the name Dof Koon. Been a huge Star Wars fan since Attack of the Clones/age 10. I’m almost 30 now, married with two beautiful sons, and have a political science degree. I was diagnosed with high functioning autism, and basically found out Star Wars is one of my autistic special interests. So finding out it is coming back, especially now that I have some real political knowledge makes me extremely happy!

  10. Hey guys, I started playing SWD when I was in high school, and now I’m in grad school which is really weird. I was thinking about SWD the other day and just tried to search for it and was pleasantly surprised to find this new forum, it looks really good! Some of you may know me as she, others as he, so just a heads up that I go by he/his. I’m pretty busy right now so I’ll also be taking a small planet, if I play at all. Looking forward to it!

  11. Excerpt from Medal of Honor Citation Released By: The Admiralty, Azure Sector Forces Location of Announcement: Grand Piazza, Anaxes Citadel Month 5, Day 3, 951 ARR Rank and organization: Commander, A.S.V. PG-013, Azure Sector Forces. Place and date: Navigational Waypoint, Azure Sector, Month 4, 951 ARR. Entered service in: 936 ARR. Citation: For extraordinarily heroism and gallantry above and beyond the call of duty during action against enemy Death Watch forces in Month 4, 951 ARR. Among the first to arrive as enemy forces possessing superior firepower and armor, rapidly approached, and undaunted by enemy fire and damage sustained, CAPT Linani Herrin (posthumous) unhesitatingly directed her command to join others of her group to provide fire support during subsequent attacks. While participating in operations in the face of furious and continued bombardment she paid the ultimate price, after having directed the placement of A.S.V. PG-013 between a Jedi vessel and a Munifex-class Cruiser to shield the former from a full broadside that would have otherwise resulted in a complete loss of all aboard. Her courageous initiative, inspiring leadership, and foresight in a crisis of grave responsibility were in keeping with the finest traditions of the Azure Sector Forces.

  12. This is the next post I need to make, let's address some things. First, re: Icedsquirrel. Do I think I handled this situation? Kind of, I handled it exactly how I wanted to, and how I felt I needed to. Does that make it the right decision? Fuck if I know. One thing for sure, is judging by his Discord interactions, I am 100% convinced that he was attempting to gaslight the situation and blame the community instead of taking responsibility for his own actions. I, as the only active admin on the site, should have handled it more diplomatically though. Which brings us into our next point: I am finding it more and more difficult to handle these types of situations diplomatically. Let's address some of the reasons. First, there's the fact that I deal with horrible people on a daily basis and have to do so in order to keep my job, so that takes most of my energy to deal with bullshit. Second, I can't ignore the fact that I am the only caregiver to both of my disabled parents now, so that is exhausting. Finally, the fact that for years I seem to be the only person who is willing to step up and run this game, and then stay, is exhausting. Feeling like I am the only one willing to do so for so long has worn me out, and has made it exceedingly difficult to manage interactions with people I don't particularly like, and has gotten to the point where I don't want to anymore. This isn't the way a community should be run though. So what I'm going to do to address this, is quite simply, take a step back from the SWD Discord. I won't be actively participating in discussions there for the near future at the very least. I am still on Discord a lot, so if anyone needs anything, they can message me privately or ping me. Other than that though, I'm going to do my best to avoid getting tangled into discussions that turn into arguments. I encourage the rest of you to continue using it though, and the Mods are still there to make sure it stays peaceful. For now, that's everything. I am going to be posting a couple very spicy articles today, which is why I paused the clock, so stay tuned for those. Let's continue the round and continue to have fun.

  13. Yo, I'm IcedSquirrel. Been around since I think 2009 but I honestly can't remember. You may remember me as the guy who lost all of Incom's technical data to Capo because I trolled him in the Senate, or the bug guy Supreme Chancellor who collaborated with those syndicalist commies and started a zombie outbreak trying to cure cancer, or the hopelessly embattled separatist remnants that got bulldozed by a mad Vader. I might play a small world or something, or just lurk around for nostalgia and lulz.

  14. Hello there! I joined the online forum-RPG community around the start of 2020, and been mostly active ever since. „Off-duty” i’m an undergraduate student of history, currently in the University of Budapest. My interests are almost all centered around military tactics, strategies and uniforms, but the starships of Star Wars have a special place in my heart as well.

  15. As we get closer to reopening the round, we've decided to make some changes. The first and most likely biggest, is a new action template for Politics and Economic Actions. This won't actually seem too different for many of you, as you all have your own formats with similar info. We are doing this to help ease action processing for the staff moving forward. Remember, we are all volunteers, working adults with other responsibilities. Please make the job easier for us by submitting actions in this format, that are succinctly written and with the research done already. The format is below... Summary: The overall aim of your action. A few lines that provide a top view summary of the action and the overall goals. Budget: How much money are you planning to spend? Method: This is the meat of the action. How are you accomplishing your goals? This can be multiple paragraphs, a bullet point list, etc. Please try to keep it succinct--remember, your action is one of many. If it takes us two hours to read just your action, it'll probably be put to the last on the list so we can clear others faster. Involved Worlds: Are there any worlds involved that aren't yours? IF not, ignore this section. If there is, please provide information on what they are doing, and if they aren't player worlds, also a link to Wookieepedia. Sources: Are you doing something where you're basing your actions on canon information? Give us links to that here. Please save us the hassle of having to go dig through canon sources to find information for you, have it ready ahead of time. Expected Results: Pretty simple right? What results are you expecting from this action? We will take them into account, especially for more abstract things that aren't on one of our spreadsheets. Some other changes. I will be lifting the requirement to pre-write articles for technology actions, non-training military actions, and intelligence actions. If you choose to write an article for any of these, feel free to submit a link to the article with the action, for bonus DP or other results. Just as a heads up, we are looking at how DPOLs are handled, and may make some changes to that as well. We will keep you appraised.

  17. Game Clock and Military Orders I've seen it asked a few times how military orders will be affected with a game clock pause. So here goes - it won't be. The clock may provide you with a date of estimated completion. This is a date that was projected with the assumption the clock won't pause. But the production system DOES NOT operate on a real world time schedule. It works off of UNIX timestamp and calculates off the game clock. If when the game clock was paused you had an order that was supposed to complete in 10 days (game time), when the clock unpauses, it will still complete in ten days after the clock runs. Let me reiterate, it DOES NOT work off or calculate off of real time. That real time estimate was just a cosmetic design added in that would give you an idea of when to expect it in the real world. I wish we could design a way to adjust that, and we could - however it is not really a priority development item at this time, especially as we are working on a conceptual redesign of the production system at-large.

  19. Action Limit We are going to officially institute a limit on actions. All players are now limited to five actions total in the queue at any given time. However you decide to slice that up with which action categories, is in you. Additionally, if you have actions listed as 'On Hold', they will not count towards this limit. If you currently have over five actions, they are grandfathered in and will be allowed to remain - however you will be unable to submit actions until you have less than five actions in your queue. All new submissions will be deleted by the moderator staff. Finally, if you wish to cancel actions on your own in order and prioritize a new action, you may do that. When you open up the action in your planet management page, you have a dropdown that allows you to select a status for the action and cancel it.

  20. With Halo Infinite coming out recently, a bunch of my old friends from back in the LAN party Halo days have been getting together to play. However, every time I hear the name "Master Chief" I think of Star Wars Diplomacy, and my early days of processing actions as a sub-avatar. There was this one player, I think his user name was Master Chief or something similar, who would pick a planet, seemingly at random, and then proceed to send tech actions to create the spartan project. Once he recreated the Spartan project in the Star Wars Diplomacy, he went idle. He did this round after round, and often was confused when I would inform him that his planet's species were not human or even humanoid. This cat also had a friend, who had the user name "Abraham Lincoln" who did the same thing, but would send one action to turn his planet into 1850's Kentucky/Illinois by building log cabins for Abraham Lincoln and his supporters. Now I tell these stories because I may be one of the biggest supporters of this rule, because few people in SWD history have processed more bullshit actions where somebody takes a random planet and tries to transform it through actions, therefore wasting the avatar's time, into something outside of star wars canon. Not even the blank slate planets like Denon that you could take some creative liberty due to their lack of canon information. It is funny how all of this took place. I have not thought about Star Wars Diplomacy in years, get an email today about planet apps, dying to tell somebody the story about the Master Chief guy, and then there is a thread about a new rule that bans the shit I wanted to rant about. Good shit boys, good shit.

  21. So this rule has abut my 80/20 support, which is to say it has about as much support as I ever give things without rewording them to be something to the effect of "Rape is bad" or something else we can all agree on, I generally try to look at both sides of anything that comes my way. From my perspective the rule and it's intent is overall in the best interest of the community and game. It's barely been a day and hardly been implemented and I've already begun considering should I just write in little notes that my governor is a native of Eriadu? Perhaps Corellia, or some backwater outer rim world? Creating your own original characters can give you the opportunity to include some roleplaying flair that makes your characters more interesting than just 'rep of planet' I mean given WD's planned direction for this round, I could totally see my Eriadi-born Imperial Officer lamenting the state of affairs on Eriadu momentarily, it would actually be kind of cool in my opinion and make some of the characters we create a little deeper. Of course I'm not suggesting each and every character needs a detailed backstory of their entire life or career or filled out list of their hobbies and relationships or anything like that, I'm not thinking of writing more than a short paragraph giving my character a little more than to be an image and name of a theoretical person who theoretically holds a certain role in a fictional gamespace, just something that makes the character seem more three dimensional and less flat. As for my critiques: while it is overall a good thing and has my support, I could see it going wrong if it's enforced too militantly. While I do think its important to create names with the right 'feel', in the same way that there a certain 'feel' in the naming conventions of fantasy themed characters (i.e. Gandalf, Gimli, Aragorn, Legolas, Galadriel) I like that character names can 'feel' like they belong in the star wars universe, but even that can have a broad definition. Star Wars has a habit of creating a number of fairly originally conceived names such as Han, Lando, Solo, Leia, Antilles and others, but Star Wars also uses fairly contemporary names in many cases as well such as Luke, Ben or Owen. Kassius is an example of an actually roman/latin name which is used by cannonical characters in the Star Wars universe so to be honest there's a lot of potential variety in that. Another thing is for example "Abraham" is a real life contemporary name of biblical origins which (naturally) sounds kind of fantasyish really, it's also the origin of my permutation into Ebrahaim (the name of one of my characters) even names like Mark, Luke and Matt, which are widely accepted and used contemporary names in our society are actually rooted in biblical reference in actuality, it makes sense there would be some such oddly sounding names perhaps with some obscure roots in Star Wars as well. As for drawing inspiration from other franchises, I'm actually more 50/50 with that, I do agree just copy pasting character names should be done much less, however I don't see the issue with using this for inspiration if a name has the right 'feel' to fit. Of course I don't think anyone shoudl be straight up naming their character "James Raynor" (and using a certain likeness for said character), but what about a character named Lazlo Raynor or Lucius Raynor? What about Daniel Mensk? Arcturus Solo? Am I unallowed to use a name bacuase of it's also a prominent reference to an established non-star wars continuity? Another thought and this is less of my opinion than a querry is what if I did have a character named James Raynor and he was say a redhead, or perhaps black? Can I use a similar or inspired name for say an ardent Imperial Moff. Mind you, I"m not suggesting this, merely presenting it as a thought experiment. I'm honestly not 100% certain of where I stand on this thought myself actually. As for the use of established cannon names, I feel this one is a little more difficult than most, my understanding of the rules as written is that this is intended mostly to prevent random nonsense like taking characters like say Dexter Jettster and making him the Hallowed Saviour Emperor of Tatooine. My understanding is that established canonical characters such as Mon Mothma, Admiral Ackbar or Borssk Fey'lya for example are all viable selections in instances where it would make sense for the player to be playing these characters. The only real question is how far does this get stretched, i.e. is it allowed to suggest Admiral Ackbar retired from the NRDF and became Supreme Commander of the forces of Mon Cal? Perhaps ran for president of Mon Cal? to be honest I'm not certain of the answer for these two, I could see lines where it makes sense to either allow or deny such things. As others have noted there are places in the Star Wars universe which have certain names associated with them, I would think it pretty wild if all the worlds in the Alliance were suddenly presided over by a bunch of distant long lost relatives of the Skywalker family, yet it makes little sense to me to start supressing names like Solo from Corellia, and even a name like Calrissian has got to have some other holders to it who are at best cousins removed a hundred times from Lando, it's a big galaxy and that sort of thing happens all the time in the real world, I could pick any of my historical family names and easily enough find people who technically qualify as my cousins even if we're removed by a hundred years or so. Still there are other examples such as the Tarkins or any of the other four families in charge of Eriadu which are connected to the planet as part of its ruling class and as such person with similar names and who are related to established cannonical chracters are quite likely to be in positions of power here. Although I do think folk should make an effort to look up the names of the other families (obscure I know, and very hard to do, trust me I've tried) and try to use those as well, it would be great to see. Hutts too have established naming conventions and come in established families trees, although the customes are different than human characters. So in effect I think applying rules against these too heavily or broadly is a bad idea, sometimes it makes sense, I don't see why we should have tons of Skywalkers walking around; other times it kind of seems nonsensical to me to prohibit certain names, Han can't be the only Solo on Corellia, although it would be weird if they all went into politics all of a sudden. Finally and perhaps the largest question in my opinion is the fact that this policy (no matter if I support it or not) kind of runs against the grain of the established norms and culture in SWD, I won't say change is bad, sometimes it's good and I think as long as it's constructed well this change may be for the better and I think will overall improve my enjoyment of the game. That said though it's been established for a long time that it's acceptable to use names and likeness of characters from other continuities, so it's a massive change. Additionally, and I would never seek to erode the value of Brents contributions to SWD, I'm actually quite excited we're getting a proper engine again and I'm grateful he's willing to foot the bill beyond what can be covered by donations; I have to add Brent hasn't been here, he's been busy with his life and career and while I respect that it's also a fact he hasn't been here all these years and on some level it feels a little unfair for a person to come back and tell everyone whose been here all this time they can't do the things they've always done because he doesn't like it, more so when that' so embedded in the communities culture. Overall I approve of the change, I like the idea that the characters we present are more serious Star Wars characters in an established logical context and less parodic copies of other things. Still there's nothing wrong with that concept if everyone enjoys it and I really believe while Brent's opinion is valueable so are the opinions and feeling of all the people who've been here keeping this alive for all these years, in a way I think we all have some ownership of the game and community owing to the contributions we've all made and I really think that this should ultimately be a community decision.

  22. The second batch is complete. Tapani Federation Empire of the Hand Corporate Sector Authority For the Tapani Federation logo, I created an emblem that incorporates stylized versions of the emblems of each of the seven Noble Houses (emblems from Wookieepedia), surrounding a seven-point star. I used the olive leaves around the outside of the main part of the emblem as well as a gold and blue color scheme similar to the emblem of the League of Tapani Freeworlds, but I used a shield or crest shape for the emblem instead of an oval so as to differentiate the two logos. Thanks to Proxy Moxie for some feedback and the suggestion of a seven-point star during a Discord conversation. The other two logos in this post were my own re-creations of existing logos. I searched for logos for the Empire of the Hand and found many of them had the same recurring theme of a closed fist (most of them blue like Thrawn's fist), and there were many versions of the same basic image, which is the one I recreated (with some liberties). The fist was originally a clipart image that I modified slightly and recolored. The rest of that logo was made using multiple Photoshop shapes. The CSA logo was created based on the logo on the CSA Wookieepedia page, but I made this one again using shapes in Photoshop. The differences from the canon logo are intentional, as I didn't want to just copy and paste the logo from Wookieepedia. However, if the canon logo is preferred, let me know and I will use it to make a new CSA logo that is the correct size and styled like the rest of the logos. Once again, I have everything saved, so if any adjustments need to be made, just let me know. Feedback is appreciated.

  23. THANK YOU. I cannot say it enough, loudly enough, or more emphatically. To those of you who donated (you know who you are), and the rest of the forum can see who you are on your user profile....thank you. We eclipsed our donation goal to support the game engine development. This money will go a long way to help us realize the collective goal of getting OUR game running again, and building upon the work that was done in the past and giving us more functionality and game mechanics. Just for the community's awareness. This doesn't mean the donation box goes away. You will notice from month to month we will have a continuing donation goal. This goal ($25) will be reset every month and go towards helping us cover the costs of keeping the game running. Our monthly expense is $24.70 which covers our hosting, domain name registration, IPS forum software license and technical support, and cloud backup storage of the site and databases. While all these are not monthly charges to us, many of them are annual or every six months - so we took the annual cost of it all and split it up 12 ways. We understand that for many people, for a variety of reasons (the pandemic just being one of them), money is tight. Please do not feel pressured to donate if you cannot support the donation or just cannot afford it. There is zero obligation, and I would feel more comfortable knowing that if you can't afford it, that you kept the money for yourself to support your livelihood. I just want to call out why there is still a donation goal and feature even after we have eclipsed our development cost goal.

  24. Hey everyone my name is CD also known as Christopher Duncan back on the old message board. I live in Toronto Canada and I'm in sales for a national telecom. I'm probably most well known for playing as the Hutts and infiltrating ecumenopolis planets and taking over the underworld with a dash of financial corruption. I'll likely always be a Hutt player or some other shady criminal enterpriser.

  25. The Glassing of Plaeree The situation on Devaron has apparently gone from bad to worse. While the infestation around the Jedi Temple has been dealt with by the Tapani forces, the infected continue to spread across the planet. The city of Plaeree has been under siege by the infected for the last several days, with defenders falling back to defend several key locations in the city. The Tapani have responded to this, by sending evacuation forces to the city, and extracting as many of the survivors as possible. What they did next shocked the planet. Devaron has been under a partial communication blackout since the beginning of operations. However, that blackout ended as the largest vessels of the Tapani force entered orbit over Plaeree. A final broadcast to evacuate the city was sent, and within minutes, the Tapani opened fire from orbit. Their target was the city of Plaeree itself, utilizing their heaviest weapons to perform a large scale orbital strike on the city, with the goal of "sterilizing" the area from infected individuals. Within three hours of beginning their fire mission, an area 20 km from the city center in all directions was turned into a sheet of molten ground and glass. While it is expected that many of the infected were killed in the attack, there are also reports of large groups of infected fleeing from the attack. As the naval ships opened fire, several civilian vessels used the break in jamming to coordinate a rapid escape from the planet, resulting in five light freighters being destroyed by Tapani forces and ten more escaping from the planet. The capital city of Montellian Serat has been reinforced by the bulk of the Tapani Forces and remaining Devaron defense forces. They have constructed defensive structures and are pushing infected out of the city. Reports indicate that as many as a million infected are still roaming around the world, taking over small population centers.

  27. Please use a current IG ship, from the same category, to use as comparison when designing a unit. If there isn't one, then go to the nearest ship or ask for assistance. Then also when selecting that unit, don't pick the highest stat'd one and then go 30-50-100% over stats, I'm either going to reject that out of hand, or prototypes are going to end up in the hands of Pie-Rats or start 'sploding, or any number of other maladies. Furthermore on the issue of being compliant with the Ruusan Reformations, I am not going to enforce said reforms on any design as a matter of processing. I will inform you that your ship is not compliant and you make the choice to continue or alter the design to become compliant. You have every right to design an illegal ship, you don't have the right to be immune to IG consequences. Spreadsheet completion dates are a little wonky, so we are doing our best to guesstimate finishing times if they are off. These are just reasonable assumptions and it is better for all of us to just go with the flow. Weapon Outputs are static on the spreadsheet, but I have the ability to override the static output if need be. However I am going to be severely restrictive in my approval to override outputs as it can unbalance the Unit List. This is also because a weapon that is not a single barreled emplacement, Duals, Trip's, Quads, etc... do not change the output of the emplacement but it does change the rate of fire and overall ship's firepower score. In essence, GT output is "per barrel" and if I override it than that means your weapon emplacement is over 200 GT per barrel. Please put your Research Rate on your TECH actions, this saves me valuable time processing.

  28. Welcome back K.T. and welcome aboard Mortel. We're happy to have your both in the community. Things have been a little quiet recently because of some staff and player turn over. But we'll do our best to keep the game active and engaging for you. Hit me up in DMs or on Discord if you have any questions!

  29. Hey everyone. Another old player returning here. Old username was K.T., but felt like trying a new username this time around. Used to play SWD back in the day - I think around 2007-2010ish - as well as the very brief SWD pre-Clone Wars spin off which was also a lot of fun. Life, school, and other things led me to stop playing for a while, but excited that this community is still up and running. Is there a full list of planets that are open for selection? Played Coruscant, Alaskan, Yaga Minor, and a few others back in the day

  30. The estimated completion date function is bugged and hasn't been working for quite some time. Likely something to do with pausing the game clock. If you look at the line above the Estimated Completion Date you'll see that the Order Date was actually July 26. So the order could never have been complete in April. The game engine is confused because of prior game pauses and is counting dates wrong on the estimate line. On the very bottom of the order is the Total Days to Produce line. If we recall that the ratio between real life days and game days is 1:6 we can estimate that 123 days in game is 20.5 days in real life. So it's possible that the order will be complete on or around August 16. Assuming there aren't any bugs in the Order Date line or the Days to Produce Line.

  33. Hello! I am Macrov, a US based nerd who works in Finance. I played on the original SWDiplomacy when I was younger, though I was an idiot and was probably AFK more than I was here. Some core memory sparked today and I tried looking this up, and here I am!

  34. The game clock has been paused because of an ongoing shortage of staff time to process actions. While there has been consistent action processing over the past several weeks, a greater number of "stale" actions more then two/three weeks old has accumulated and those staff who remain available to process actions are not able to keep up with processing new actions in addition to processing the growing backlog. The pause will remain in effect until a sufficient number of the older actions have been processed. There are presently 60 actions in the queue and over 20 of them are more then two weeks old. We are not presently looking for more game staff at this time.

  35. I just want to take this opportunity to reiterate that technology is neither something complex and unattainable that you need the help of others to acquire, nor something simple and gift wrapped that you can present as a gift to someone else. On the one hand technologies are simply a permissions gateway to control unit production and limit access to specific designs. On the other hand simply being given the designs to a unit does not indicate an ability to build the unit until you have access to the technology. This might be because you lack the basic industry to complete construction, lack the artisanal knowledge of how the units are built by hand, don't have the advanced technology or knowledge required, are inexperienced in the mass production of units of the type... Or any number of factors. To gain access to these technologies you need to learn how to actually use them - and simply saying that some other world is going to teach you or vice versus isn't sufficient. The best method to gain access to a technology is to learn it through practical application. This means designing a unit that needs its. This doesn't have to be an original design, it could be through reverse engineering a design that they are giving you - not because you need to reverse engineer the design (they are giving it to you after all) but because that same process can represent the act of you learning how to build it. The barrier here often isn't you having access to the knowledge you need, but you (your people) taking the time to learn it and understand it - and this takes time and money. I say all this not because anyone has done anything wrong, but because there needs to be a minor shift in the expectation of how technologies are handled. Again, its not something that can simply be bartered, traded, and given away. It's something that needs to be earned and acquired through work and process. So just like gaining any asset viewed as valuable in game expect on submitting and writing an action to justify making the gain.

  37. Based on player feedback, and concerns that TPC costs were too high for economically disadvantaged planets, staff spent the last week reviewing our new TPC formula and have adjusted it accordingly. The TPC cost formula is no based on GDP. The higher your GDP the more expensive TPC is. The formula we will be using in published below. We will not be applying this cost retroactively to previously construction, however all new construction will utilize this formula. TPC Increase * GDP / 100,000,000 * ( 100 - Research ) / 100 In addition to this the cap on construction remains set at 10% per year, except for planets with less then 10,000 TPC who may build an amount to bring their total up to 10,000 in any given year, and thereafter may construct 10% per year. TPC will take one year to build, however building less then the 10% limit may expedite construction, and planetary Research Rate may decrease construction time as well. We apologize for the pace at which these rules are being adjusted, but are simply doing our best to make sure that the game systems are both equitable to all players and balanced within the game economy. Thank you for your understanding.

  38. TPC Construction Rules have been amended. Forget everything you thought you learned about it previously. TPC now costs a flat 200,000,000 credits per unit to build, modified by your planets research rating. Construction now takes a variable amount of time depending on how much TPC you are trying to build (formerly this value was capped at 10% of existing TPC). The baseline is around 15 months of game time. This is modified by your planets research rating and by how much TPC you are trying to build. If you try and build more then a ten percent increase in existing TPC the build time will increase. If you try and build less then a ten percent increase the build time will go down. All players who had ongoing TPC construction under way had their original actions responded to with updated times and costs for ongoing projects. No times increased. When times decreased players were informed when the project would now be complete. When costs increased those new costs were waived as part of the rules change. When costs decreased, credits were refunded to player treasuries. If you have a TPC construction action that was not updated by staff, please respond to it with a query asking for an update on construction times and costs.

  39. Gotta hand out big praises to all the staff who have been knocking out the backlog. Some of the action results I've gotten have been delightful and creative uses of canon that I look forward to tackling in followups.

  40. From the Economic side of things. I would like to see something that has to do with a galactic stock market. Further intertwining the galactic economy and allows an automated way to invest in companies and potentially take them over or just simply make dividends off of. It would also encourage more interaction between planets as they exchange and sell stocks as part of agreements. Stocks would overall be affected by events occurring in game much similar to real life. It would also provide a sneaky way for certain planets to sabotage others using economic means.

  42. Ongoing Bug with Military Production I want to address a problem that was identified to us today, but others have likely identified. Military production orders are NOT deducting money from your treasuries upon completion. While this sounds like it may be awesome and you may have gotten free orders...you have not. I am going through all military orders and manually adjusting the cost of your production orders and editing your treasuries. I am only doing it for orders that have completed - so if it is still in production, you won't have a reduced treasury. This is incredibly tedious - so this is going to take me probably two or three weeks to get through them, especially as new orders complete every day. Just understand that if you have money disappear - this is very likely why. Enjoy the "free units" now - but you WILL be paying for them.

  44. I wasn’t around when this was first online. But since getting married, I have found a love of RPGs and always thought a PBP would be fun! I’m a noob to PBP but my husband can tell you I’m at least a novice at SW lore. I wrote fanfics and wanted to try my hand at a PBP! I’m a softcore RPG gamer and love the people that ttrpgs bring together. I look forward to seeing what this is all about!

  45. First batch is done. I have everything saved, so if you want anything changed (or completely redone for that matter), let me know. I took some liberties with the last two. For the New Republic, I used the new canon color scheme with an old logo, but from looking at the Wookieepedia page, I think the old logo is still canon, too. For the Imperial Remnant logo, I wanted to avoid having it look identical to the Galactic Empire logo or a simple inverted white/black version, so I made it red and black, similar to the canon First Order logo. Style-wise, I gave them all the same kind of "shiny" style 1) to save time, but more importantly, 2)I thought it would be best to give all of the organization logos that will appear on any kind of list a somewhat uniform appearance. Individual logos can be further customized later in additional artwork for use in the forums if desired. 46. I'm Fury. I live in the United Kingdom currently. I began this crazy experiment back in 2005 in my parents basement (I was 15 years old). We took about 6-9 months with one or two people working on it to get going, and launched it in March 2006. I was known as "Game Master" back then. I stuck around consistently until around 2013. I came back in 2017 to attempt to rebuild the game, though with server issues and coding issues hitting us hard, we had to abandon the effort. Other folks took the lead and kept the game going as before, and here I am again - an all out effort to get the original game engine and automation back into things. Through the past fifteen years, I think I have learned a lot from this community. I hope to take those lessons into this next chapter of SWD. If I play - I will chose to play the most obscure and unimportant planet possible. However, I think I will have my hands busy maintaining the game and ensuring that the NPC planets are represented in some capacity through our Sim account. I will also be the first to admin - I am not the biggest Star Wars brain on this game, and there are many others who maintain greater level of knowledge.

  47. My name is Srip, been here since...god, 2007 maybe? All I know is I was 14 at the time, and now I'm 27. I've run a round, done a hell of a lot of avataring, and played for years. I'm from Colorado, am a USMC veteran, and am currently a cop. I generally enjoy playing planets that aren't all too powerful, with my all time favorites being Mandalore, Arkania, and Kamino. Every now and again I enjoy playing worlds like Coruscant, but people tend to ask too much of me as them. I will never, and I mean NEVER, play as Kuat or a major ship building world, because you go to sleep after answering 12 messages, and then you wake up with 30 (true story, never again). If you like politics, and star wars, you're in the right place. The guys are (mostly) friendly, and they won't bite. And if they do, talk to an Admin or an Avatar, and it'll get sorted out.

  48. SWDiplomacy 15-Year Anniversary I want to just highlight that we are celebrating our 15th year of SWDiplomacy this month. SWD launched officially in March 2006. Work had begun on it in March 2005, with some delays and setbacks until the fall of 2005 when we were able to begin getting it into a playable state. I think this should go without saying, that this community has survived because many people have stepped up to the plate over the years to take the lead or fill important roles. I have not been always the most present and available person for the last 8 years or so, with sporadic appearances and things like that. It's honestly been since the failed development project in 2017 that I've been this involved, and prior to that was somewhere around 2014 when I was active. In my absence, many folks have stepped up and become leaders in this community - and I would hope it's mostly because they like this community than a feeling of necessity. All of you are incredible, and I am not always the best at vocalizing it, but you keep the community going, not me. I would list off names specifically, but inevitably I would leave someone off by accident. Anyway, here's to all of you and our next chapter as we move forward with the new game.

  50. I realized that we are making a very drastic forum improvement by going from IPB 1.3.1 (released in 2002), to IPS 4.5.4.2 (released 2021). A lot of features have been included in the last 19 years of IPS, and several older features are now gone. So I want to highlight some things for you all - and understand some new ways to interact in the community. Reactions This is my favourite new feature. Reactions offer more fine-grained sentiments towards content than a simple up/down or 'like'. They are now in common usage on social networks, and so users expect to be able to be more nuanced in their response to something they see. WYSIWYG Post Editor WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) is the new way to post. There is no more BBCode. It's all a rich-text editor from here out out. This makes your life and our life as admins and avatars a LOT easier when writing posts and news articles. Leaderboards With the reactions and reputation systems, users gain points and climb the leaderboards. There's no rewards for being the top user for the day, or all-time, but it's just a fun way to maintain bragging rights as the top user on the site. Color Editor If you haven't yet, check out the paint brush tool in the top left. It lets you adjust the colors of the theme to match whatever you desire. Sidebars We have added sidebar content. If you want to be able to easily monitor what posts are new, or which posts are gaining the most replies and are considered "hot", there's a sidebar for that. Simply put, it just lets you see more of the forum at one time than before. Member List No more is the member list that allows you to search for people. It was antiquated - and now it's simply a search bar. Additionally, there is a replacement, and it's in the menu as Online Members. Enjoy. Staff Director The staff directory is a default feature of IPS 4, and it gives you the ability to identify people within the staff team and easily contact them without having to search. UserCP Changes With the new software comes a new UserCP. Obviously as before, you can change your avatar. Now you can change your cover photo. We will be tinkering with the UserCP system as the game development gets going, so keep on the lookout for more profile fields - to include integration between the forums and Discord. Social Media Integration IPS 4 allows us to integrate seamlessly with social media. While we don't have social media pages, many of you do and you are able to integrate them if you so choose. Emojis You can now use emojis - not emoticons. This gives you access to the VAST library of emojis, currently totaling over 3,000. You can look at all the existing emojis at https://emojipedia.org/
